Williams Peep Sight
 

I have been doing a lot of searches on peep sights for a Renegade and realize there are a number of options. What I am wondering about and did not find in the hours of research and searching is this peep sight mounted:http://www.midwayusa.com/product/696...aluminum-black

Have any of you used this on a Hawken or Renegade? The reason I am leaning toward this sight is I am already using this style on the Omega's. At this point I would use it with the blade front sight with a bit of white paint on the blade for low light shooting. Your thoughts please.

I have never looked thru one of those little peep-holes, already setup on a shouldered rifle. Just curious! Is it magnified like a 1X scope, on the other (unshown) end?

If not, then how is this better than a good set of Wiliams fiber optics Mark?

That sight won't work that good on a sidelock unless you want to drill and tap holes at the back of the barrel. Even then it won't work as good as one mounted on the tang. A peep needs to be mounted as close to your eye as possible.

TC made a peep that mounted on your tang. It's a #7194. pretty hard to find now, and when you do $100 is a good price.

Williams also makes a sight for your gun, but it's pretty bulky. I prefer the TC sight if i'm going to use a peep.

Personally, I gave up on peeps, and just use open sights with a 6 o'clock hold.

The plan would be to mount it as far back on the barrel as possible, might have it drilled and tapped into the breech plug if it fits. Doing that it should be similar to what I'm used to.

The answer to the question of why use a peep instead of regular fiber optic sights is with a peep you do not focus on the peep itself, only the front sight and target. I have good eyesight but suffer from 40+ year old eyes in that they do do not adjust from close up to far away very well so peep sights work well for me anyway. I know about peep sights. That's why I said it needs to be as close to your eye as possible. In your case that would be on the tang, and not on the barrel.

I use the Williams on my inlines, but just don't think you can mount t far enough back on the renegade to do well. But maybe, if you tapped holes are the very rear, it might work. However, not with the stock peep aperture. You would need to buy a larger bore peep

Williams makes a sight like that for the tang. That's the one I mentioned that was kind of bulky. It's it's FP-Hawken
