My brother used a number 64 drill bit to drill out the flash hole on his traditions breech plug. So far his gun is now igniting blackhorn and with clean primers! He missed a nice doe tonight but I got one so my gun worked as well! Tomorrow is the last day of the season. So hopefully he can get his 2nd ever deer. |

REALLY??? Ive tried to make that happen and never could. I think if the bullet sabot is on top of the powder it will go off every time. Like Ron said, there is a chance the bullet sabot was not down all the way??? Who knows, but it is possible.

Personally, if I were in his head and using a drill bit to enlarge, I would have chose #66 first. Your brother should not pass-on this rifle and enlarged flashhole plug to a new owner either. For that new owner may want to use a powder like blackpowder Swiss or 777 FFF. That enlarged hole size should not be used in conjunction with other powders. |

What I was trying to help clear up was what this link to BH 209 addressed...in this case, in this discussion, relative to the pressure used to seat the bullet/sabot for proper ignition with BH 209. It could be any "bullet" as far as that goes. The primer is also an important component for proper ignition of BH 209. That being said, I have an Omega. I have consistently ignited this powder with Fiocchi primers...one of the "coolest" primers on the market. Mostly I use CCI 209 magnum and Remington STS primers with this powder. Have also used Winchesters too. Here's a response from Don Luhr of Western Powder said when I asked him about the Omega breech plug working with BH 209: Paul, That's one of my favorite. Make sure you have the new breech plug, the one on the right in the picture. Follow the breech plug cleaning illustration and you should be good to go. Our Omega can shoot a variety of primers. It's almost the perfect breech plug design. Attachment 30201 If you have any trouble at all please let us know. Best regards, Don For me the bottom line is to have fun shooting ML's and experimenting with different primer/powder/bullet/sabot combinations. This takes me back to my metallic reloading days. I had lots of fun playing with different combinations and trying to come up with combinations that work the best. Lots of fun. To me, shooting ML's is pretty much the same as reloading metallics...we're using the barrel instead of the brass. |

He also have another breech plug he hasn't drilled. our season ended yesterday and he made a mistake on trying to shoot a running deer on Friday. I gave him hell! I got a doe that night. I saw a good buck using a bean field so I setup on him for our last hunt of the year. He came down the draw at 440 and made a perfect 80 yard shot. He only went 60 yards. A super cool 7 pointer that measures 118 inches. Has chocolate horns and very good mass. My guess he is a 4 years old. |
