Ron...what sabot are you using on the Noslers?

My hunting rifle has a tight barrel; i use the crush rib sabot. For other rifles, i might use the Harvester short easy load high pressure sabot.

Remember the 45 cal. Nosler is a .451 bullet versus the standard .452 - I use HPH-24's in my Knights and in my Omega when I had it but it was an original Omega and really did not have the tighter barrel the newer TC's seem to have.

I prefer the longer petals on the HPH to insure a longer contact area with the bore - especially on its trip up the bore.

I shoot an Omega...should have mentioned that from the get go. I've had it about 10 or 11 years.

I have some HPH-24's that I use with Barnes TMZ's (Knights). The yellow ones that came with them were way too tight. I'll give those a try and get some Harvesters for 300 gr and under as backup.

Going to try some 45 Caliber .451 Diameter 230 Grain Gold Dot Hollow Points...heard lots of good thing about them on here but never tried them.

The 230g Gold Dot is designed to be shot from a 45 acp. It works great when shot at 900 fps. It is the bullet i use in my pistols. However, from a muzzle loader?????

The crush rib sabot is what i use in my Omega(s).

I appreciate the heads up. I've always bought bullets with sabots. Think I'll try some of the Noslers mentioned above and play with them. Thanks for the help.

Paul,

My advice is to purchase a variety of sabots. I often buy from Graf & Son's as the have Harvester sabots for $5-7 per 50. I know many are fans of MMP and you can do the same with their products.

I then try different combos to fine the best load. I suggest the Harvester Crushed Rib, Smooth for less that 300 and smooth for more than 300.

If you call Harvester, they will probably send you samples of all.

To confuse things a little more Nosler is now producing the " Jim Shockey Signature Series Ballistic Tip 300 gr. bullet" with a .458 diameter and sabots to match. in 15 bullet blister packs. Not much out on them yet. Midway and Cheaper Than Dirt have them on their website and one of the hunting magazines had an article on them recently.

I saw those on Noslers site...may have to give them a try sometime. IMHO, Noslers builds an excellent bullet. Thanks for the heads up!
