Muzzle loader black powder lubes ???????????

Maybe i read too much but i keep seeing that oil based lubes and black powder don't mix?
I've looked at a lot of lube mixes and alox is in alot of them. Is not alox a petro chem?
How would synthetic oil[or greese] be in a lube mix?
I am looking for a lube to try pan lubing Maxis and Real bullets.
Do bees wax base lubes leave a wax coating in the barrel after fireing the load? Will it build up in the bore of the gun? If so,how do you get it out of the bore when cleaning the gun?

I am not qualified enough to answer your lube questions so I will leave that to others who are more knowledgeable regarding the topic.

However I have found the best way to get a muzzle loader barrel clean is also the simplest: hot water. After removing the lock I will plug the flash hole with a toothpick. Then just pour very hot water down the barrel and let that sit for a while. Pour the water out and swab with a wet (water) bore mop. Some more hot water, pour out and patches to dry - the hot barrel will help with the drying process. Once dry run a patch with oil to coat the barrel.

You will be using water that is close to boiling hot so gloves to protect your hands. I also wrap a rag around the muzzle to prevent any spilled water from getting between the stock and barrel. And a plastic funnel to prevent spillage as well - that may not be "traditional" but it is better than burnt hands!

It sounds strange to pour water down a barrel but it really does work.

Good luck.

I lube mine with Lee liqud alox when dry roll them in motor mica it is a dry lube powder help with leading and stands up to 5000 degrees. I swab with 90% alcohol and after cleaning. I also use alcohol for swabing between shots.

never heard that rifle oils aren't good for blackpowder before. interesting.
is it an issue relating to misfire or something else?

Petroleum mixed with black powder is sludge. Nasty.

Bees wax melts at 140F. Seems to always leave a film on any pots I use to melt it down in also.
I would not find bees wax in the bore a problem though.
