Main Reason I End Up Sticking with Shockwaves
Because on top of two 50 grain pyrodex pellets and using a CCI 209 primer the 250 gr shockwaves shoot like this out of my T/C Omega. First shot at 100 yards to make sure it was still zeroed.
I was mainly there to help a buddy sight in his muzzleloader so I didn't shoot much more but I did take a few follow up shots at some other targets just to confirm. The last shot being at a full sized cardboard deer target. Aimed at the edge of the top of the heart and cut that line into from 100 yards. I have had a love hate relationship with shockwaves when it comes to blood trails (sometimes good, sometimes barely there) and how far deer have occasionally run after the shot. But it is hard to leave a bullet that shoots this well from my gun. |
I did, after my buddies and I killed a few dozen and having to track several that were good lung shots...I started taking high shoulder shots so no tracking was needed...I went to XTPs and now get more internal damage and larger exit wounds which gives me better blood trails...
There are plenty of bullets that will group well, especially with loose powder... ;) |
I WOULD BE THE SAME WAY! I love hitting what i've aimed at.

Hitting the right spot is 90% if the game.

Todd1700, Have you tried XTP bullet?
|
Certainly good shooting! I agree, hard to leave something that works...and it doesn't sound like you've ever had any real issues. BUT, I would venture to say you could probably get similar results from other bullets, that may give better terminal performance. |
Powerbelts are accurate too. Terminal performance is more important then shooting tiny groups. You've already admitted you don't like their performance on game. That should be your number one concern for a hunting load.

Yes they are, significantly.
|
Yep, they do more damage than the Shockwaves...
I've already killed 3 does with the .429, 300gr XTPs this year... |
