Dream Season--Maxihunter
The other day i had a chance to shoot the new Federal 50 caliber 270g bullet using the Dream Season. On a windy day, three shots were taken at 200 yard, and it shot OK at 200 yard.
![]() This led to questions about whether this particular rifle had a QLA that would accurately shoot conical bullets. Today i tried the rifle a second time shooting the Maxihunter bullets. Both times shooting the Maxhunter from this rifle resulted in fliers--one could conclude the QLA of this rifle is not suitable for shooting conical, but is OK for shooting the new Federal muzzle loading bullet. |
I talked to Federal today about the bullet. My main questions were about BC, and expansion.
He told me they tested it at 100yd in ballistic gel, and expansion was perfect. They used 80gr of Black magic, so a fairly light load. BC is kind of disappointing at .164 compared to the Barnes 250gr T-EZ which is .195 |
I never could get maxi hunters to shoot well. Nice job!!

Hmm..if there was a different conical around here to try, seems it should be done.

Yes, it's good enough. Even if I use a scope I probably wouldn't shoot more that 100yds. Half of that for a peep.
|
That is one bullet I never got to shot in anything.

Not to hijack the thread, but why don't conical bullets like the QLA?

TC has a problem with keeping the QLA lined up with the bore. |
Last post. Now I know why my renegade hates conicals, but loves PRB.
