Heavy Lead in the .45 GM/TC Renegade (Range Session #2)

Happy, happy, happy!

I had a pleasant session today with the .45 caliber Green Mountain barreled Renegade,

and the 350 grain/.451 soft lead Gould mold hollow points supplied by edmehlig. (Thanks again Ed.)

The objective today was to shoot the bullets over the chronograph, and shoot targets at 75 and 100 yards.

The chronographed targets were shot at 50 yards to save on walking. Here are the results.

75 Grains GOEX FFFg

85 Grains GOEX FFFg

95 Grains GOEX FFFg

The 75 grain group was quite nice at 50 yards, recoil was modest, and it has all of the energy needed (over 1,000 ft. lbs. @ 100 yards, and over 800 ft. lbs. @ 200 yards), so I decided to use that load for the 75 yard and 100 yard test.

Here are those targets.

75 Yards

I have no idea what happened with shot #1. I thought I had a good sight picture and trigger squeeze. Anyway, I was pleased with the other four.

100 Yards

WOW! A drop of four inches between 75 yards and 100 yards. I didn't expect quite that much (The tough little 4X Simmons ProDiamond scope was not adjusted at any time during the session.)

The next time out with this load I'll adjust the scope up an inch higher at 50 yards and see what it does at 100 and 150 yards.

That is still some excellent shooting. Those Simmons Scopes are a diamond in the ruff I my book. And they are tough!! I like some of them groups a lot.

Sessions like that make it all worth the effort. Nice shootin'!

Good shooting buddy. I'm surprised with the 4" drop from 75 to 100 yards. I would have never guessed it would be that much.
