I thought I had everything I need now but noticed I have one jag that came with my ML. I thought it was a cleaning jag but just realized there is nothing on the ramrod to push the bullet down. Do I use this same flat jag to push the bullet down or do I need another jag?

I have a short starter with different tips but never thought about this.

Different bullets like different jags. A simple cleaning jag will work for roundball. But one I find real handy is the knurled hollow jag used for Shockwaves.

It will load a large number of projectiles and still hold a patch for swabbing. I out one on my short starter and one on my range rod for most... not all, bullets.

That one Cayugad recommended is one of the most versatile jags around.

I don't use anything but the smaller end of the ramrod when I seat my Hornady XTPs...

Won't one of those tips from the short starter fit on your ramrod?

Never thought of that. My ML cam with a tube of the XTPs in 240gr. I think the flat jag or the small end would work on those.

Its when I go to the pointed ones I will have to do something different.

Yes but if I take them of the short starter I won't have them to use on my starter unless I swap back and forth.

The starter came with one long pointed starter (not sure why its such a long and skinny taper), one that's just about like a welding rod (not sure what that's for) and one that's flat and had a tapered hole in it.

I can't remember ever needing a short starter for an inline. What bullets are you shooting?

btw I think the long pointed tip is for hollow points.

Like I say..I'm green. I see that everyone was using one so I got one. I'm starting out with the free ones I have.... the XTPs.

If I like them I may use those but I'm sure I will be spending more trying out several others. I did look in the starter pack and it has three of each tip so I should be good to use one of those.

BTW...the pointed one is about an 1 1/4 long. Why would they make it so long coming down to such a sharp point?
