Deep Curls….where are they?
Ha, I guess I've been too relaxed about this. Had a really good stock of the 270gr .429s and now they're gone…from my stash and every retailer I can think of. Any tips on where I could find some more?
Hope y'all are doing well. Miss the forum but my life has become ridiculous so I have little time to "play" online. Makes me sad! |

Wow, that's the worst. I can't believe there's such a large demand for a hunting cartridge that they can't manage to make enough to sell in component form as well.
I have some in 300gr so I suppose I'll enjoy hunting with those until I run out. Then I suppose it will finally be time to try the Lehighs/Bloodlines. Can't beat the value/performance ratio of the Deep Curls though. DEEPly disappointed! |

Checked Midsouth. They are out. Too bad, I like to use these.

Well if you get some before they are gone:

They show out of stock.

I sent a query via the Speer website, no response yet. I also called their phone line just now (5:50 PM Eastern). The lady I talked to gave me the usual line about production being done around the clock, 245/7, with the common excuses of hoarding, wholesalers playing favorites, etc.
But she unequivocally stated that, contrary to any rumors, Speer has no intention of discontinuing the bullet as a separate component line. I suggest they get more calls from us asking the same question. From the Speer site: For phone inquiries, please call (800) 379-1732. A representative will be available to answer your calls between 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. CT Monday through Friday. This improved phone system ensures you speak with a live agent. We look forward to hearing from you whether by email or phone. |
In my email to Speer, I asked if they intend to continue to offer the DeepCurl as a bullet component. Their reply came about 6 hours later:
DeepCurl Pistol bullets yes, Rifle bullets no. When made the product ships to the oldest order. The Distributor ships to the Retailer based on his orders. When and where the product finds its way to a shelf is unknown to us. The best solutions for getting product is to purchase it on-line or place an order with a Retailer so when the product arrives it has your name on it. Shoot Straight! Coy Getman 2299 Sanke River Ave. Lewiston, ID 83501 (800) 379-1732 This comports with what was said at the LongRangeHunting.com forum. Discontinue the rifle bullets, not handgun. Good news I guess, but if they cannot get them to the retailers with some consistency, it gets harder to stay loyal. |
Thanks. So…place an order at a retailer that lets you place an order for out of stock items and hope they order it for you?
|
Yeah, I could kick myself for not ordering the last of the 300 gr. (apparently anywhere) from Natchez when they were available. I'm not out, but 8 or 9 bullets won't last too long. I put "notify me when available" on my Grafs and Midsouth accounts maybe 18 months ago...and they've been out all that time. I kept thinking Speer would get caught up, but this is ridiculous.

If you are in Virginia and only shooting whitetails, just get you some Hornady XTPs and have at it...
Any of them from the 240 or 300gr .429s to the 250 and 300gr .451s will do all you need to do to a deer... |

The results i have seen, indicate the Nosler is a better choice than the Deep Curl for elk anyway.

Not me. I hunt elk here in Arizona. In fact, I'll be hunting later this week. I'm already thinking ahead to next season. I'm eyeing some of the now defunct 300 gr. Nosler Partition HG that are barely available, but at a much better price than before.
The OP is in Virginia... :) If I were going for elk, I'd be using a .530 patched ball... :party0005: |
