Having heard several different stories about them not opening up I decided to do a bit of testing;
Encore Endeavor 50 caliber
Blackhorn 209- 140 grains
Harvester short black
Chrony gives a avg. velocity of 2350
3 tries same result
The lead is shredded with the biggest chunk of lead usually weighs around 150 grains.
Now one guy said they would not open up, I do not know how much powder he was using.
The other two I know showed very nice mushroomed bullets from hog hunting with a 45 caliber cartridge rifle, I forget what they call them but the hog hunters around here really like them, and if I remember what I have read correctly they have a muzzle velocity of close to 2500 FPS.
Now why do they hold together for them and blow up when I shoot them into milk jugs filled with water.
They blow the first 3 into pieces and the 4 one into 3 or 4 pieces make a thumb size hole through the 5 one and bounce off the phone books.

Normally and not always what I have found is failure to expand at the near ranges (20-75) yards when shot through a skinny whitetail, they tend to pencil, unless they contact a good sized bone. Of course if you drop the powder load and reduce their velocity they will work very well. Another problem I have found when they hit large bones at high velocity the can strip the copper from the lead.

Bonding solves the second problem but still the first problem continues to bother me and my reason for not using them.

If that's the the 250 grain .452 FTX rifle bullet, it was designed for the .450 Bushmaster. Guys i know use the .450 Bushmaster for hog hunting, loaded to about 2,000 fps with that bullet.

Anyone have any experience with the SST/ML FTX 250 grain Bullet. With 100 grains of BH 209 and a T/C shockwave sabot I can put 3 shots in 1 hole at 100 yards. Just have no experience with how it performs on game.

I have shot a few of the FTX 250 grain into 2 liter water jugs... all I can tell you is with 90 grains of 777 they do open up nice. And they make a large mess out of three bottles. After that I have no idea where the thing went.

The Shockwaves and SSTs do about the same thing. And like said... they are very accurate. But currently I am shooting the 40 caliber out of a 50 caliber 200 grain. If these bullets behave the way they do in media on a deer... I can't see a deer standing a chance.

i've killed about 25 deer and dozens of wild hogs using the 250 grain SST/Shockwave bullets. Those bullets have worked very well for me. The Shockwave has a hard plastic tip. It sometimes does not expand, especially on smaller deer and hogs.

There is apparently a difference in the 250 grain SST and the 250 grain FTX bullets.
The 250 grain SST is Hornady part number 45202 with a retail price of $33.52 for 50. Retail price for the 250 Grain FTX, part number 45201, is $38.68 for 50.

The 250 grain ML/Monoflex bullet is much more expensive than the 250 grain SST bullet. Maybe it has a thicker or bonded jacket.

Here is a picture of the Hornady Monoflex 452 on the left and the 458's on the right. the 2 that are opened up real nice were shot into milk jugs at 100 yards, 1 was the 452, the other was the 458, the one to the far right was a 458 Monoflex that was shot into milk jugs at 200 yards.
