TC Black Diamond, Sub-Bases And Maxi Balls

Mountain Devil kindly sent me some sub-bases for my experiments. Last time i did this the gun was my TC Encore. It did pretty good with the sub-bases behind 320 grain Maxi Balls.

Today i took my TC Black Diamond to the range. Fired some 320 Maxi Balls in front of the sub-bases. The powder charge was 80 measured grains of sifted 3F Goex Pinnacle. The Black Diamond did not like the combination at all. At 75 yards the three shot group was over 5".

Thought something might be haywire with the scope or mount so i fired a three shot group using 100 grains of sifted 3F Goex Pinnacle, a crush rib sabot and the 250 grain SST bullet. The three shot group measured about .75". It ain't the gun or scope.

This experiment will continue. Next time i'll take the Encore.

I purchased a bunch of them a while ago, and tried them under a lot of conical bullets. I never was impressed with them. I was reading posts of someone claiming that with the sub base, they could push projectiles harder. I later read that the sub bases were used more in smokeless loads. But Sabotloader has done some impressive shooting with them. I will have to dig them out of where ever I hung them and try some new things.. I will be watching this post to see what you discover. Good luck with your testing. I have a Black Diamond XR and shoot conicals with nothing more then powder under them.
