Tried a peep

one of my hunting buddies has a TC Hawken with a Williams peep mouned on it, He mounted it right where the rear sight was. Well he let me barrow his gun to see if I'd like the sight and it worked much better for me. Now all I need to do is find a peep sight that will fit my TC Black Mountain Mag. So far everywhere I've looked doesn't list my rifle for anything. I figure its basically a New Englander anyway that maybe a sight for one of them would fit, well nobody lists that gun either. Anybody got any ideas on where to look or who to talk to? Thanks

Tru Glow should make one for a round barrel. Did you try the peep in low light?

caplock...

A peep mounted that far forward seems a bit unusual. Most of the time peeps are mounted back at the tang of the rifle so the eye has very little difficulty seeing through one to acquire the front sight and the target.

I had a home made forward mounted peep on a Zouave. It worked just fine for me - almost as well as a tang mounted sight. The aperture needs to be fairly large. I'd made inserts with several size holes. As I recall, I used the 3/8" one the most.

Contact Williams Gun Sight Company at 1 800- 530-9028 and tell them what you have. They are also a T/C dealer so should know what will work.

Marble Arms in Gladstone Michigan also sells peep sights and they do have some tang mount models.

Lyman also has peep sights and several tang mount models.

Military rifles do not have tang peep sights. They are well forward on the receiver.

the peep he has on his hawken is a williams but it is just the mane sight in the rear, nothing screwed into it so hole is fairly large. In low light the peep about disapears, so my original TC sights are actually better in low light. Kinda funny I think the original sights work better for me in low light than in normal light. I contacted TC and they didn't have much to offer, I asked about tapping for a scope and they said it would void any warranty on gun and that they no longer have a custom shop so they wont drill and tap. So looks like if I want to keep warranty on gun I need to find a good sight I can use. Anyone hear os XS ghost sights, they actually list a sight for this gun and have in stock. I'll try to contact them today and see what they have to say.

You lose the better vision a peep can give you if you don't mount it close, but otherwise it works.

Ah yes... the "V" peep. I forgot about that one. My neighbor has one on his Renegade and loves it. Here's a pic...

Click on Blackpowder Sights in the left column then click on "V-PEEP Muzzleloader Sights".

Ghost ring, but some probably call it a peep.

Great set up, and I use the globe front sight as it is really bright in any light. However I like to use the Williams rear peep with it.

BUT, they have discontinued this sight quite a while back and I have not been able to find them anywhere.
