Omega problems past 100 yds
Hey guys, new to the board so please bare with me.
My brother brought his new 50 cal. Omega over today to sight it in and we had no problem getting it dead on at 100 yds. We then went out to 150 yds and with two shots it shot about 8 inches low and about 6 inches right on both shots. He is shooting 295 grain power belts with 3-50 grain pellets and Winchester primers. This gun should shoot a lot better than this, what could be going on guys?? We made sure to run a brush down the barrel between shots so I would not think that this should have been the problem. |
RE: Omega problems past 100 yds
How many groups were fired at 100 yards? Was there any wind?
Sounds like the gun did great-- you said the bullets were in the same place. I' d write off the 6" to windage, and suggest you sight the gun in about 3" high @ 100 yards. (2.99" for a 150 yard zero as below.) .50 cal 295 gr Copper Clad AeroTip BC=.186 150 grains Distance (yards) Muzzle 25 50 75 100 125 150 175 Velocity (fps) 1924 1825 1731 1641 1557 1476 1400 1328 Kinetic Engery (ft lb) 2313 2081 1871 1682 1514 1361 1223 1104 Trajectory -1.5 0.7 2.23 2.99 2.98 2 0 -3.07 |
RE: Omega problems past 100 yds
I would try two pellets and see how it shoots then. If it is still not shooting well then try another bullet weight or style. It sounds like its shooting pretty good though. I never ues more than two pellets even with the 300 grain Hordady XTP' s. If you were going after Cape Buffalo or Rhino the you might need three pellets. Try the Barnes X muzzle loader bullet. The really work.

RE: Omega problems past 100 yds
Ok guys, I' ll have him try using only two pellets and then if we are still not satisfied then we will try another bullet. The wind was not a factor that day and I would have to believe that gun should shoot better than that. My Knight Disc shoots better that that. I' ll have him try the bullets I use.
Thanks Guys. |
RE: Omega problems past 100 yds
Hey I am the one who owns the Omega. I have talked to a couple of people who own an omega, and they said their guns shoots better than that. I am not for sure what bullet and grains they are shooting. But I do know that the gun should be shooting better than this

RE: Omega problems past 100 yds
Better than what? What avg. 100 yard 3 shot and 5 shot groups are you getting?
|
RE: Omega problems past 100 yds
The guy that I talked to, Had his omega sighted in at 100yds. But at 200yds, his only dropped about 2-3 inches. NOT 8 INCHES DOWN AND 6 TO THE RIGHT.

RE: Omega problems past 100 yds
I' ll try again:
What avg. 100 yard 3 shot and 5 shot groups are you getting? A 2-3" drop at 200 yards, based on a 100 yard zero with 295 grain Powerbelts is not possible. |
RE: Omega problems past 100 yds
I just realized one thing.....I am using 245Gr. Copper-Clad Areo tip BUllets. Not the 295 like posted before.
