Shooting the new (old) Knight

I managed to scrape up some shooting supplies for the .54 cal Knight Black Knight rifle I got on an auction a couple weeks ago and took it out today just to get the scope close.
At my local shop there was one old pack of T/C .54/.45 sabots. These were so old the clear plastic packaging was yellowing from the gas heater in the shop. And I had some 300 gr Sierra soft point .451" bullets.
Off to the range the first two shots were only 3" low and about 1" left and were touching @ 25 yds.
Made some adjustments and moved the target out to 75 yds. (that was my max range at this area). After some more scope adjustments I settled in and shot a 3 shot group measuring about 1 1/2". Not real good but I wasn't too upset. I got this .54 to shoot big old conicals not saboted bullets. If I want to shoot saboted bullets I'll stick with the .50.
The sabot/bullet combo seemed to load with a nice even pressure but when I walked downrange I noticed that every sabot I picked up had at least one of the petals off. They must have gotten brittle with age and could have been affecting accuracy?????
Heading to Cabelas tomorrow to get some conicals for it.

I can't remember shooting at a deer at more than 75 yards at the places I hunt. There's too many trees. Besides, I think 1.5 inches at 75 yards is pretty good.

I have to agree... that group would be fine with me.

Yep. 1.5" at 75 yards is just fine with me. It will likely be 2" or less at 100, and der ain't nuttin rong wit dat!

No I guess you guys are right. But I want to pick up some big old conicals and see how they shoot out of it. I may even try some Powerbelts just for fun. BTW the trigger on this rifle is nice

Bronko I have 54/ 45 sabots I think red I don't use a lot. I will check and see how many. They were a gift so I will check and let you know how many if you want some
Free plus a few $$ for shipping.

Thanks John but I don't think I will need them. Like I said earlier - If I want to shoot 45 cal bullets (or .44 cal I would just as soon shoot them out of one of my .50s. The .54 is a big bore that I will be shooting big projectiles out of. You know "shock and awe" !!

Sounds like you need some 535gr no excuses :D
