225 or 230 gr .45 cal saboted bullet

I would sure like to see barnes come up with a .45 cal saboted load in maybe 225 or 230 gr?
Something moe than 200 gr or 195 gr.
any comments?

If it were a copper bullet, it may end up too long to shoot accurately in common standard twist barrels, e.g. 1:28.

Knight offers a .40x200 grain bullet - that is an awesome bullet

A copper bullet like you are describing is in the works but not by Barnes. It requires a faster twist for best results. So far the testing results are mixed and the best results have been with twists faster than 1-22. This bullet though has a long "pointy" ogive because they wanted a high BC. A less aggressive ogive would likely work in a slower twist just fine with upper end loads.

Ive been begging for a 220-230gr copper bullet that mimics the Barnes 195gr profile for a long time but i don't see it happening.

Forgot to add this one may be coming shortly.... hopefully...

40x230gr

Never mind... you are looking for a good .452x200/230 grain bullet...

But you know you can put either of these .40 cal. bullets in a 40x50 cal. sabot

225 or 230 gr .45 cal saboted bullet

I think he wants a heavier 45cal sabot option similar to a Barnes 195gr. Im assuming he wants a monolithic bullet since he mentioned Barnes. Im under the impression that Cutting Edge Bullets will gladly make whatever you want if you order enough.

I am still not sure exactly... I do not shoot many Barnes bullets at all but I thought the 195 was a 40 cal bullet???

That is correct. The Barnes 195gr is 40cal and offered in a tan MMP 45x40 sabot.

Precision Rifle makes 220, 240 and 260 grain .400 Dead Center bullets.
http://prbullet.com/shop/products.ph...tAsc=1&nPage=1

Starting tonight at midnight through midnight Friday Precision Rifle is having a 40% off sale.

I shot these 240gr Precision Rifle Dead Center bullets in a smokeless muzzleloader but used Harvester blue smooth sabots for better accuracy. Even killed a deer with one and the exit is seen in the picture. So much for reports of them blowing up on impact :sheep:

Cutting Edge is making .400 240gr bullets. They however will not shoot with sabots as of yet. They are very accurate sabotless in my .392/.400 Pacnor barrel full form sabotless.

Why wouldn't they? Why not? Bein's how i am very inexperienced shooting sabotless, is perhaps why i ask. Myself, i don't understand why a bullet could shoot good without sabot, but not with sabot.

Sabotloader,
The bullet you mention is exactally what i want I think.
a 230 grain bullet that I can shoot out of my .45 cal Encore pro hunter
with a sabot. Is it solid copper or lead with a copper color?
Does anyone now use these?

Those bullets are solid brass and are quite deadly...

Here is the problem.... the 40-230 was dream bullet thought up by Grouse45 trying to find the best Lehigh bullet for his 1-20 twist Knight Super DISC. Dave Fricke owner/operator of Lehigh Defense designed the bullet to be the optimal weight and BC for that specific twist. He them ran a batch of the bullets in his facility on the CNC machines. The bullets were then sent to a small group of shooters for testing. They really do perform better than expected. The final problem... very few current production rifles can shoot them becausbloodlinee of the twist rate needed to stabilize them.

I have shot them from a 1-20 Super DISC, a 1-20 White Whitetail, both 45 caliber rifles. I have also shot them from a 1-28 Knight DISC in a MMP 40x50 sabot with a MMP sub base installed under the main sabot. Shooting them with a 120 grains of T7 they did stabilize and shot very well. Clay pigeons at 200 yards was not a problem.

Finally since Knight does not have a current production rifle that can shoot the bullet, the bullet is not yet in production.

But... the perfect alternative and available alternative is the Lehigh/Bloodline. This bullet was initially built for the standard Knight DISC with a 1-30 twist. Even then it was slightly to long to stabilize, so Dave created a 40x185 grain bullet. In my case and others the 200 grain did work very well in a 1-30 but then again I was shooting it with 120 grains of T7 to increase velocity to get stabilization.

I would really suggest you get some of the 200's and give them a try. I do not think you will be disappointed...

This sheet is computed with the velocity shot by 110 grains of T7

The Barnes 195 gr Expander is one awesome bullet along with the 200 gr Lehigh DOA/Knight Bloodline. The 230 gr Lehigh DOA shows great potential on paper out to 250 yards. I need to do more testing with this bullet.
