Friends had been losing hogs from a trap on their lease. We thought someone was letting them out. Nate put a game camera at the trap.
The holes in the cattle panel top were too large. The small hogs were climbing up the root gates, poking their heads through the holes, squeezing out and escaping. There were several photos of pigs getting out.

it never ceases to amaze me how an animal when trapped with do anything to escape. Pigs are very smart animals. My friend who owned a pig farm used to tell me of some of the things even his domestic hogs would do to get out of pens.

One of our traps has a straight vertical drop gate rather than a root gate, and has larger holes on the top. Once while walking up to it with five hogs in the trap they bunched up in the corner of the trap. Two of the small ones climbed on the back of the others and got out of the top.
