Update
Some of you may remember the thread about the blizzard here. I suggest you get busy filling your freezers with venison as beef may become very expensive . The blizzard cost the loss of an estimated 100,000 cattle . Here's the article . So get to hunting .

My sister was telling me about that. I guess getting caught out in a blizzard for cattle is not a good thing. For a person if they have no shelter isn't much better. How much actual snow did you get out of it?

blizzard
It seems like we had about 30" here at the house. Last night we had about 1 1/2" of rain. Today we had steady 40 mph wind with 60 mph gusts. The trees around the house are destroyed. Wife and i have been cutting on them for 2 days to remove the hanging widow makers.
The county has set up 3 disposal sites for cow carcases out in 3 different directions about 25 mile from Rapid. It has been brutal on the rancher. An acquaintance mentioned a friend that lost near 1000 sheep. There are folks right here in town that still have no electricity. Wife and i feel fortunate. |
Dang fellows, stay safe and good luck...
My season starts the week of Halloween, have made space in the freezer the last few weeks cooking venison to take during that week...I've made deer spaghetti, chili, roast, bbq and vegetable soup...We have 7-8 hunters that will be there for much of the week, I'm ready!! :) |
Wow...that is just terrible.

yeah it is not good at all. I drove through lemmon and bison on my way to harding county for the antelope hunt a few days ago and the snow was level in the ditch with the highway going through bison. I know it is not as bad as it was for you guys closer to the hills but still bad for this time of year. Luckily they did not get as much snow around buffalo as they did around bison and we ended up having a very enjoyable antelope hunt.

This morning i removed some widow makers out front, and then set the bird baths back into place, and blew the water out of the irrigation sprinklers, whilst the bride went for groceries. Then we went across town, and removed a large broken branch using the chain saw, and some necessary analysis. We returned home, and put the fountain to bed for winter, and set up a small tank for the birds.
Whilst the bride was putting things away, i sat down on the patio, and just gazed at the beautiful world in front of me. Politely, i requested the bride to bring me a beer, and a cigar. We wasted away the rest of a sunny, calm, serene afternoon. The beer was opened a way too early in the day, but it has been such an intense grueling time these past days, it just seemed right. |
