Do you think I'm happy?
I discussed earlier about shooting the .58 GM barrel at 100 yards. But today I decided to be sure I have the most accurate load for it. So I had another session today at 50 yards. The only difference today was instead of using the .020" Oxyoke patch I used pillow tick with olive oil lube.
All 3 shot groups were fired at 50 yards off sandbags swabbing between shots with an alcohol patch - both sides.
Shooting the first group at the lower left target out of a squeaky clean barrel, as you can well imagine left me in almost disbelief!
Then to be sure I shot another group at the lower right target. Still pretty good but not as good as the first.
At this point the barrel was a bit warm so I deducted that it may be the heat. So I gave it time to cool down while I sighted in my .45-70 Marlin.
After about 20 mins or so I fired the upper left group which also had me smiling.
Having nothing to lose at this point I decided to shoot a group with 100 gr of Pyrodex RS. The result of this is seen in the upper right target.
So at 50 yards it there is no noticeable difference between Goex FFg and Pyrodex RS with the 100 gr charge.
The ollive oil patches I collected look really nice. Probably able to be used again if I wanted.

No Hawkeye I was using a 6 O'clock hold on all targets. After the first group I adjusted the rear sight up. Those are 5" bulls so I am about 2 1/2" high at 50. I believe that should put me pretty close at 100 yds. Will see next week?!?!?
I measured the group size extreme spread and they are clockwise from lower left 1", 1 7/8", 2 1/8" & 1 7/8". Subtracting the .58" for a center to center the results are .42", 1.30", 1.55", & 1.30". The Pyrodex RS producing the largest group by 1/4" (insignificant).

"Happy?" Yeah, I suspect so.
That first group is the kind where you wish a few people had been around when you checked the target. Then you could have said something like "Yep, it's still shooting OK", and quit for the day.

Isn't that the truth? Why do you always shoot your best when no one is around? I assume you are probably more focused on the task at hand.
