Maxi-Ball Lube

So I got (100) .54 Maxi-Ball 430 grain bullets off of ebay this spring. I made a 5:4 mix of Beeswax and Olive Oil, and pan lubed them all last night. First time doing it. Kind of fun to add another step into my shooting. All together, I am $32 all in for these lubed maxi's, with enough lube to do a few more hundred.

Nice job Jorgy. I always seem to screw up pan lubing. What did you use to cut them out of the lube block?

Cool I never thought about using Olive oil , we use bees wax and hog lard, the unsalted kind.

I didn't cut them out. I just push the bottom of them with my thumb until they broke free, then pushed them through with a flat headed screw. Worked well.

Is that 5 parts beeswax to 4 parts olive oil or vice versa?

BPS

Yep, 5 parts beeswax to 4 parts olive oil.

I started out 50/50 and if I hunted in cold weather I would have used it. It was more solid than bore butter, but still a bit soft for what I wanted. 5:4 was perfect for what I wanted. It sticks to the lube grooves really well and doesn't melt down with body heat, but you can still feel the olive oil in it when you handle it.

Where did you get the bees wax? Is it the refined stuff from a craft shop (for candles)?

I got the beeswax off of eBay. I bought filtered cosmetic grade beeswax. It was $8 for 12 ounces, free shipping. It will be enough for 500-600 bullets I think.

My Ace Hardware has beeswax in muffin tin size chunks.
