Restoration Project- Traditions Hawken

I have been reunited with my first bp rifle. Back story This is a kit that my Dad and I built together. I graduated Highschool in 1999 and my parents were going through a devorce at the same time so I only took a car load of stuff with me when I left and this rifle ended up getting left behind and has spent that time in one of my parents basements.
Anyways I was at my grandparents house during the reuniting and since Grandpa needed something to do, he got out some sand paper and we spent about 5 minutes sanding the barrel to see if there was any damage from the rust.

My memory says that we used a router to engrave my initials.

Glad you got it back. Did it look ok under the rust? Are you going to shoot it?

There is minor pitting on the outside of the barrel and I believe the inside is fine. I should have it back to service by the end of the month and hopefully I'll be able to use it during our primative weapons season. This rifle was my first experience wih BP, and my first misfire as well, so I'm excited about getting it back to service.

So here is some belated pics. I soaked it in evaporust. I ended up oiling it up and setting it to the side. The pitting isn't as bad as I first thought.

I'm going to have to take a wire brush to this screw.

If you can't tell it is 1:66 twist.

Lock and trigger browned and reassembled. Its neat how that black streak came out. Note this is my first attempt at browning.

You've done a nice job of restoring the gun.

The barrel is getting to a point of being good enough. Hopefully I'll have it browned by Thursday and completely reassembled on Friday. Which would mean a Saturday trip to the range and then stop at the local gunshow on the way home. Ohh yeah and I bought a peep sight when I ordered the barrel brown.
