Tony Knight - Father of the Modern Inline
 
I just learned tonight that Tony Knight has passed away at the age of 67. A lot of us know who he was and what he did for muzzleloading yet there are so many today that do not know how innovative he was. His visions were just ahead of the time.

Prayers to Tony and his entire family and his family of friends.

Only my best wishes and thoughts go out to the Knight family at this tragic time in their life. Tony Knight was a visionary. He made inline rifles what they are today. And his memory will live on, but I am sure his influences will be sadly missed.

Tony will be missed but his vision continues. He will not be forgotten. I was satisfied shooting more common and cheaper MLs just to extend my hunting season until i tried the DISC based GMB54-120. After shooting a Knight design my real addiction to modern muzzle-loading began. Tony Knight set new standards for me without even meeting him.

The MK85 and Knight DISC based MLs were revolutionary in the ML industry. The MK85 was picked as one of the top 50 GUNs of all time by Field and Stream. No other modern inline ML made that list.

[37] Knight MK-85Tony Knight is another country gunsmith who changed the way things are done. In 1985, he built a muzzleloader with the nipple at the rear of the barrel, directly behind the powder charge instead of alongside. This made ignition far more reliable and began the Great Blackpowder Revolution, which has resulted in muzzleloaders that are practically as accurate, reliable, and fast to load as cartridge-firing arms.All this drives traditionalists mad. But ordinary hunters love it.
The MK85 was not the first inline but the quality set them far apart from the mass produced inline competition. High quality triggers like Timney and barrels like Lothar Walther were items only found on custom shop guns at that time.

MK85s were not just a "meat and potatoes" gun. Knight offered some nice walnut and laminate wood stocks. The MK85 Grand American with a laminate TH stock was one of the most attractive inlines ever built and the forerunner to the Master Hunter line.

Good luck finding one and finding someone willing to sell it.
