35X45 sabot experiences?
 

Have a supply (200) of the 35X45 sabots and was wondering if anyone has tried them. Thinking of trying the 35 cal. 220 gr. corelock or 200 ftx in them in my 45 Encore or White. Wonderin if anyone has much experience with the PR 35X45 stuff? Any insight or experience would be appreciated. Currently using the 40X45 smooth blue sabot and 200 XTP and it's a real slammer but have the 35X45 sabots and hate to not give them a try but wondering which bullets might be better, seems 35 rifle bullets would be better than 38/357 pistol bullets. I thought I remembered reading where it was decided the 357 pistol bullets were too short to stabilize well? Not sure about any of the rifle bullets. If you decide to try the pistol bullets, you might look at the 357 FTX. It's only 140 gr. but is pretty long. Report back if you try them. I'd be interested to see how the work out.

Which sabots? The PR Orange or the MMP Blue? Both are made by MMP but the PR sabot is longer.

In the Blue MMP sabot, the best groups i got in a Elite 45 1-30 twist were with the Hornady 147gr 9mm HP with the mini boattail. About 60gr of BH209 gave "ok" plinking accuracy.

Any 357 longer than a 158gr is probably going to be better off in the PR Orange sabot. You might also try sizing the .358 bullets down to .355 in the Orange sabot. They can get really tight and .355/9mm fits much better.

A fast twist is a must with the .358 200gr FTX. All attempts to shoot them in a slow 1-30 twist failed. Bullets either keyholed or the sabots drilled with heavy loads of BH209. I also tried them in a 1-28 twist with no luck.

I have some 140 gr. FTX's I was going to load for my 357 Herrett. Would those work better than the 200? I didn't know they even made a 200 gr. version.

The 200gr .358 is made for the 35Rem.

I haven't tried any "deer suitable" bullets with 45/35 sabots. But a few years ago I tried light loads and 125 grain bullets and found a dandy small game load.
