paper patched lee 501-440: white muzzleloader, cva wolf
finally I got to the range. took the paper patch bullets idohoron made for me.
70grs pyrodex p wolf: fed. fusion primers white lighting (the gun not the drink): remington #11 (had just enough for this test) scopes: wolf: konus 3-9 x40, white: tc 3-9 x40 50yrds white lighting, slipped right down the barrel the rifling catching the paper. shows promise ![]() until I keyholed one ![]() 50yrds cva wolf. this gun seems to like this set up at this distance. sight in. ![]() forgot to load the bullet on the first shoot. shot one blank. ![]() 100yrds with the wolf, the wind picked up to 15 to 20mph, started moving my target around. but still, that is only a 6 inch target. ![]() the recoil was not that bad at all. |
Did you use an over powder wad with these bullets? The load most of the rifles like I have shot is 80 gr of pyrodex P with an over powder wad. That key hole is odd. I have not seen that happen. I have never known anyone to shoot those bullets out of those guns but I would have thought they should have grouped better.
|
it was just a fit and feel test, but next time out, I am going to use wads. had them. the keyhole throw me. may be upping the charge will bring the groups together.
|
It might. The blow by on the White might have been the reason for the tumble. I also wonder a little about the hardness of the lead. I don't think that would be a problem but I got to wonder. Wasn't the bore on the white kind of questionable? Ron
|
it was when I first got it. since then I cleaned it up really well. the bore is not pitted. just looked worst then it really was. shoots powerbelts just fine. shot 3 just to see if there was anything wrong, those are about the same diameter as those boolits.
I may wrap some with the paper I got, I have about 20 or 30casted up, I know that lead is much softer. |
I should have left some unsized to get a tighter fit. I wasn't sure how they would fit. Try an over powder wad. Ron
|
I will try a wad next time out. think a wad or powder work will help bring it together more
