White's series G whitetail .504?
Looking at a White whitetail and wondered how these rifles have faired. Some scuttlebutt about the trigger and lugs? I have got the bug to own a White, but am in no real hurry. If you could own only one White and didn't want to break the bank, would this be the rifle? What I really want is a rifle to throw big conicals like the 460 no excuses for hunting in Colorado. What would be a good price? Thanks

I would look for a Super 91. But thats just my opinion.

Some people prefer the Whitetails and others prefer the Supers. It kind of depends on your body type which one fits you best.
The biggest problem with the G Series Whitetails is that the recoil blade on them can get bent. By bedding the action you minimize the chances of this happening. They all shoot conicals well but they also do a good job with saboted bullets for those who prefer them. If I could only own one White it would be a Super 91 or Super Safari in .451. |
I personally like the Model 97 Whitetail Hunter. It has the two locking lugs, and just a well made rifle. I also like the plunger style action as it is simple and easy to understand. I also own a Bison which is a G series. Its a good shooter. But it was abused when I purchased it. As for a good price, depends on the shape it is in and how bad you want one.

I have a g-series whitetail that I bought new back in the early 90's. Never had a problem with it and it shoots lights out with conicals. I shoot 100grs of pyro P with a 370gr TC maxi ball, that load will touch holes at 100 yards. Its the most accurate muzzie that I own.

Thanks guys!

What about a white lightening?

Anyone that owns a Lightening never has a bad thing to say about their accuracy. They all seem to be great shooters. I personally don't own one. Also they are not as common as some of the other model Whites.

Pull handle is on the right side of the rifle instead of the left and the trigger safety is on the left - a little different but you work it out... 22" barrel, adjustable trigger, really easy take down... |
Mike, did you do the stock mod before the coating? Looks great.
