Default Shot Some Real Black Powder Today

Gun: TC Black Diamond, short barrel model
Scope: Minox Z3 set on four power
Powder: 100 grains of 2F Grafs blackpowder
Bullet: 240 grain .430 XTP in crush rib sabot
Primer: Musket cap

Wind: In my face, steady 15 mph, gusting to 25 mph.

This gun was loaned out to a USMC friend who killed a couple deer with it. i wanted to check the zero. Fired a five shot group at 50 yards using 100 grains of 2F Goex Pinnacle. Group was on target and measured about 1 1/4". Fired two 370 grain Maxi-Balls into the center of that group using 100 grains of 2F Goex Pinnacle. Some how this target got trashed or misplaced.

Swabbed the bore and loaded the gun with 100 grains of 2F Grafs blackpowder. Fired three rounds. Wanted to see if the gun could be reloaded without swabbing in the field. The second reload went down really hard: i could not have reloaded a third time.

Swabbed the bore. This blackpowder is cruddier than i remember. Took 6 patches to get the bore somewhat clean. Fired two more rounds without swabbing.

Wanted to shoot some more but the wind was really bad so i quit. Some nice day i will wring that gun out well with Grafs blackpowder.

A TC Black Diamond with a good scope can make one feel good about himself.

I wish I had a nice wood stock for my old Black Diamond. That's the only thing I don't like about mine, the synthetic stock.

Good shooting

Mine is the XR model with they black composite stock. And as I have often said.. one of the best shooting rifles I have. Just hard to out shoot a Black Diamond. Although cleaning them can be a chore.

Love it. It has Schott glass. Good adjustments that stay zeroed. It also has BDC: But i don't know how the scale translates to a muzzleloader.

i also have a Minox Z3 on a .300 Win Mag.

A couple of ways you can cut back on the crud is drop the powder charge and use FFF instead of FF...Half of black powder is left over as fouling so by dropping the charge, you reduce the fouling...I have sighted in several inlines for buddies and never found one that liked 100gr...Most were most accurate with 80-85grs of FFF...

FFF leaves less fouling than FF as it burns faster and the granulars are smaller...

Nice report.

I have a can of Swiss I'm messing around with and I really notice the fouling compared to T7. It shoots well but I need to swab after every shot
