No trophy for me this year

I didn't get a good tag this year so the only hunt I got to go on for me was a cow tag this week. I took the first one I saw. I got this calf on Wed. Ron

Usually when us Northern Whitetail Hunters say we got a "Cow" it's a good one, all kidding aside and not living where you do and not having to worry about a lottery. WAY TO GO! That'll be some good eating! Even though Im also a Trophy hunter, the Meat is what taste better than the Horns.
Congrats and Thank the Lord your still able to Hunt and enjoy what we all like to do, that's what matters most.

I wanted to shoot a big one to see if the paper patched 500 S&W bullets would stay in an elk, and to see what they looked like. At 100 yards the bullet just plowed through. Ron

smaller ones are better eating and easier to get out of the field. Congratulations on the deer. That looks like the 1-28 GMB I have on my rifle. Is that what it is. And nice sights too. What do you think is your max range with that weapon?

This one is actually an elk. Yes that is a 1-28 twist 50 cal. The stock broke in an accident on my double trigger renegade so I had to use this one. My max rang for the double trigger gun was about 250 yards. For this gun my max range is about 100. The two guns don't shoot the same at all. Ron

Ron, I'm doubting those bullets stay in even a big one. They are bad to the bone! :D

Maybe if you shot one hard quartering and it had to travel an elk lengthwise...LOL

Nice job again on your calf!

There was a time when I could never shoot a calf. Not anymore. Time marches on, and you have to adjust with it.

Good going Ron. That will be some fine tasting meat.
