That's a Decent 8pt, and he's got nice Brow tines! nothing to be ashamed of. 158lbs is an average weight of our Northern Deer and again a good one. Though we do get some in the 200-230lb range, a nice buck like yours is a good one in any woods, Congrats. And nice job on filling the Freezer.
I've seen more deer shot through the hind quarters weather it be angling away or right through them. There's more major artires in the hind quarters than anywhere else. I know it's not a shot most like to take, and I know this was'nt your shot, but if you ever have a shot at the hind quarters and it's something you want you in all likely will take him out. It's not a pretty shot but it's deadly.

That is a really pretty buck! That would be a really nice deer even in our "northern" woods. I understand about taking a difficult shot - when the range is not too long, you have a solid rest and are confident in your rifle/load, there is nothing wrong with that. Congrats!

That is a trophy here in Vermont. Hunters here run out and have a mount done on a rack like that. Nice job

Very nice deer and week of hunting. I love that set up, I.M.O the best gun for the money. I also use 777 and sw in my guns and love the results.
