Saturday's hunt
Saturday afternoon I was sitting on what I call the creek plot. Its a food plot a couple hundred yards from the creek. At 4pm I had a little spike come ambling in from my right, he looked out in the plot for a bit and turned around and went back the way he came. At 5pm had a doe come in from my left and fed on the oats I have planted there. She stay around for about 20 minutes and then she left.
At 5:50pm I heard something to my right again and thought it was little spikey come visiting again. Its a real thick ceder thicket with hard woods mix. When he turned his head I could see it wasn't the spike again. He was only 35 yards, but his vitals were covered by a oak. I was hoping he would step out into my plot but he never did. He turned almost directly away from me and I knew if he took one more step he would be gone. He was quartering away at such a steep angle I placed the crosshairs on his flank and squeezed the trigger. He only ran 20 yards and I heard him crash. The bullet entered the front of the left flank and exited the right side of his neck. Its not a shot I really like to take but I had a solid rest, the range was close, and the Triumph shoots very accurate. When I walked up and found him I was tickled pink. A respectable 8pt with nice brow tines and he dressed 158lbs. Not nearly as big as northern deer get, but not bad at all for a Arkansas hill deer. The load I was using was 100grs of T7 and a 250gr bonded shock wave. Friday afternoon I shot a big fat doe for the freezer. My wife and I were off on vacation all week and we ended up with 3 deer. Not a bad week of muzzie hunting.
