Can We Say Hurricane!!!!!

I had all my stuff ready. Went shopping for my food provisions and was ready to go into the woods and do what I have been waiting for all year!!! Then this darn hurricane comes along and decides to mess with me and all the hunters on the east coast.

Can't leave unit next week sometime thanks to this stupid hurricane. I am depressed. I guess I will have to go and sit in front of the TV and watch those stupid hunting programs.

Oh yeah, forgot to say that I left my bow up at my trailer at my hunt property 3 hrs from my house. If I had my bow I could have gone to the local piece we have and at least give that property a go!

Did I say I am depressed?

cayugad 10-25-2012 07:37 AM

Weather can do that to you. We had some heavy rains last night. Some real thunder storms and winds. But no hurricanes like you at least. Hope you get in the woods soon.

mackesr 10-25-2012 09:11 AM

I am waiting for that sucker to come on through as well. Its supposed to cool on down next week and I am hoping that cool weather will help get the bucks up and moving around some. For now, just watching the weather......

rafsob 10-25-2012 09:18 AM

Me too. It is supposed to get colder next week and that is a good thing. I even hope it snows!!!

I'm hoping it will blow out to sea and head east!

TNHagies 10-25-2012 09:28 AM

Luckily I'm not heading to VA until the 2nd to get there in time for opening week of ML. So I should be coming after all the weather. That does suck for all the East Coast hunters though.

Semisane 10-25-2012 09:54 AM

I was kind of hoping that thing would come this way, but as a tropical system - not a hurricane. I planted my food plots on Oct 6th and haven't had a drop of rain on them yet.

Breechplug 10-26-2012 05:24 AM

Sorry to hear that rafsob! Yea that darn hurricane is suppos-to possibly come up the coast and turn in to NYS. I live on the other end of NYS near the lake erie shore close to the PA line. They say if this storm hits us it will be a RARE Noreaster and a BAD one at that.
We had our Indian summer yesterday here, we broke a record temp, it was almost 80 degrees and today it will be 70, to warm to hunt. But by Monday night if this storm does what they think we'll be in the low 30's and get some Snow. But there worried about the winds also. Thigs will be bad on tuesday and wednsday also from this storm.
All My Best to You and I feel your pain!

That doesn't sound like much fun. I had the fun of experiencing 3 hurricanes when I lived in Florida. Best of luck to you, and hopefully it will blow through without much damage...

johnnyo 10-27-2012 05:32 AM

Just checking the updates on the Hurricane... Wow! You guys hang tough and hope everyone gets through this thing one piece!

Dutch 10-27-2012 06:28 AM

Rafsob,

Look on the bright side. It could be that the foul weather will serve to concentrate the deer movement to the days after the storm. It is exactly the time you will be in the woods.

nchawkeye 10-27-2012 04:29 PM

If it makes you feel better, I'm sitting at home because my hunting partner and I headed home after being on my farms in eastern NC since Tuesday...We left a day early because of the high winds...

But, you could wear shorts all week...Three of us saw a total of 5 deer in 3 1/2 days of hunting...This weather needs to cool down...Thankfully we have another trip planned for Nov 15th... :)

rafsob 10-27-2012 06:29 PM

It looks like I may have a lot of wind and some rain, but the major portion of the hurricane looks to be headed north. I think the NY, NJ, and DE will get the most of it.

As to the weather after the hurricane, it looks like a major dip in temps. Now this should be a good thin for me. Hopefully I can get into the woods on wednesday!!!

WV Hunter 10-28-2012 06:35 AM

I'm just hoping we don't get a couple feet of snow out of it, like they are saying could possibly happen. Should make for good hunting next weekend after all this is gone, and M/L season opens :D

Breechplug 10-28-2012 07:37 AM

Our Bow Season started on Oct 1st this year, I have'nt bow hunted once yet. I finally got everything ready for winter around here, wood shed full ect... I did'nt want to burn out my stands and was waiting for the RUT befor I went hunting. But after the driest summer on record it seems like all it's doing here now is Rain!
This Hurricane is suppos-to hit us here in NY on Monday night, but for the last few days we've been getting the other storm that's comming from out west, the rain wont stop. My yard has standing water in it where it never does. On top of that the hurricane is suppos-to hit our area with 3-6 inches of rain and high winds right at the time our Rut starts to kick in, this is just great!
To all those in the path of this Hurricane I wish you's all the best!

I don't think I can remember this much rain constantly coming down. The tides are what kill us here in teh lowlands of Virginia. I live in the Tidewater area on the Chesapeake Bay. I know we are used to it, but it is still un-nerving to watch that water rise across the street from my house. It came a little close during Isabelle, but we came through alright. The house across the street got flooded though.

I am getting cabin fever just sitting here. Think I will go into my outdoor reloading shed and make some cartridges. Should be over tomorrow night, hopefully!!!

Semisane 10-29-2012 08:53 AM

I feel for you rafsob. I know all about cabin fever and hurricanes. We had three days of constant rain during Isaac with a total close to 16 inches. Stay safe and I dearly hope your home stays dry. Floodwater is a miserable thing.

Thanks to everyone out there. We are doing good, but getting soggy to say the least. We are worried about the high winds forecasted for this evening. With the ground saturated, the trees will get blown down for sure. Got my generator ready and that is all I can do for now. My real concern is for my family up in NY, NJ, and PA!!! They will get the full force of this monster.

They just raised it to a cat 2. That is not good. God Bless all

Breechplug 10-30-2012 04:46 AM

Well our end of NYS pulled through the storm pretty good, just lots of rain and wind with minor damage, not like Breezy Point in NYC.
How everyone is well and ok in those area's My Prayers and Thoughts are with you all.

I don't think I have ever experienced this much constant rain in my life! It is still raining here but the wind is down to a breeze. Hopefully I can get my rig packed and on the road to hunt camp. This has been crazy storm. So much damage!

Just thank God, it could have been worse.

The main part of the storm has'nt hit us yet, we'll get it later today, and yes the rain is unbelieveable.
Hope you get out to camp and be safe rafsob!

Looking at the news and Weather Channel, those of you on the East Coast really got slammed. Or at least that is how it is being portrayed. They showed streets in NJ that were flooded, like a river, but the lights were still on inside the buildings.. Strange.

I sure hope none of you got damaged and I hope you're in good health and spirit. And maybe have a good supply of spirits as well. A storm like that might make me even take a drink (but I doubt it).

Keep us posted.

Dave, some of those places have the power lines buried. I wish all lines were under ground. I am about to do a walk around my house to check for damage.

hubby11 10-30-2012 06:54 AM

In Northern VA, we made it ok. Lost power for about four hours and lots of debris. Spent the night in the basement with the kids. All in all, not too bad. Looks like NYC got really slammed with power outages.

It's amazing, you lose power for a few hours and it seems like living in dark ages. What wimps we are!
