Some dserved R&R

My friend and I are heading up to the camp this weekend - leaving Sunday morning and coming home on Tuesday evening.
Going to be ML hunting with our sidelocks. The season opens tomorrow (saturday) but I will be archery hunting around the house here and he will be working.
Too bad PA only allows us to harvest anterless deer during this season. But that's the way it goes. But the wierd thing is we can harvest one antlered deer a year. This can be either with the bow during the early or late archery season, or with the rifle during regular season or during the late flintlock season. So why not during the early ML season?

Bronko,
At least you can get a Doe permit. My father bought our camp in Forest Co. in 1974 and being a non resident all tags are gone even before we can submit ours. Wish they would go back to Doe season after Buck. I have never hunted with a Flintlock in PA, sticking with Archery-Gun. The last few years our herds have been way under what it was years ago. Thats why VA gets most my money. PA going wrong direction I.M.O

Jay- I agree with you. But fortunately I believe they are seeing the error of their ways. And the hunters are wising up. Yeah, you still have the meat hunters that buy as many tags as they can and shoot as many deer as they can just to say they did so. But most of the concerned hunters although buying the tags are not filling them. I am seeing the numbers come up in my area. For instance last year I saw one deer all of archery season. And he ended up in my freezer and his rack on my wall. This year I've seen some monster buck on camera, and this archery season (about 4 outingss so far) I've already seen 3 legal buck and 3 doe hunting the same area(s) as last year.

Bronko,
Whats your thoughts on PA's Flintlock season? Whats wrong with percusion? Myself I wish they allowed inlines early season. The last few Rifle seasons I didnt carry a rifle. The ProHunter went with me.

Inlines are allowed In Pa. Early season. Will be carrying my Impact 50 cal Sat.

Jay you can use any ML during the early season as long as it is .44 cal or larger. Sidelock (flint or percussion, or in-line). The late season ML after Christmas you can only use a flinter.

I had that backwards.. So why is late season Flintlock only?

bronko22000 10-12-2012 03:46 PM

I don't know. But I like it like that personally. Makes things more interesting and keeps a lot of hunters out of the woods who don't like using flinters.
