The FAET dates from 1919. Originally the tax was collected by the IRS. Since 1991 the tax has been collected by the BATFE. Not sure how BP guns can be taxed.

I guess I have just never seen it posted on a ML site or on any ML's that I have bought - but then again I can only think of 2 such purchases...
