Optima Day

MD,

Yesterday must have been the day to sight in Optima's. I did the same thing, except I was just trying my new rifle out. I zeroed at 50 and quit. I shot about a dozen rounds....and it made 1 big hole. I was shooting a very similiar load 100gr. BH209, 250gr. Barnes TEZ but I had it topped with a Nikon ProStaff 3x9. I was wondering if it was dead on at 50, what it would be at 100...and your pic tells me. It will be roughly 1" high at 100 yards exactly as I expected.

I have to tell you, yesterday was my first time for loose powder and BH209. WOW that stuff sure shoots nice and clean up is a breeze.

Good shooting and nice setup you have there. :party0007:

Can you guys hunt with scopes in your states here in nv im told we cant hunt with a scope. So i have been trying to zero mine in with open sights ..... and getting no where.

Thought about buying a powderhorn scope from cabellas this pay day and maybe just using it for coyotes since im told hunting deer with a scope is illegal.

Can not use scope in CO during muzzleloading season. My optima can only use a scope due to the thumbhole stock comb being up so high, almost impossible to use open sights unless you shim them up really high.

Start it off easy and do 25 yards, zero it 1" high and then move to 50 yards and put it dead on.

MD,

Actually sighting that gun in last night cost me. My son showed up in the middle of shooting so i had him shoot 5-6 shots. He is now a believer in BH209 so I told him I would get his V1 Accura setup for BH. We've only ever shot pellets. I won't use those again...EVER!

We just kept looking at each other in dis-belief and laughing at how silly accurate it was shooting!

Now we just need a deer to walk in front of us.

Very nice MD....Seems like we all have got these "no excuses" rifles. Would hope to see a lot of pics during and after hunting season.

You won't see much from Jon now. He's done for this year. He hunted a tough area to get around this year.
