Default We have no elk.....

We don't have elk here in southern MN but my neighbor a couple miles south of me got this pic on his trail cam this week. I don't know if it migrated here or if escaped from a game farm somewhere.

I would think it would about have to have escaped, but I don't know that for sure. I know there's a few way up north, but can't see one migrating that far. I don't know how far south you are, but I know there's a farm that raises them somewhere just south of Rogers. I'm guessing there are others as well.

That has to be an escaped animal. Unless someone is planting them. Very nice to see one, I would think.

Yeah just imagine...he's rutting and can't find any females!! It's a wonder he isn't going crazy!
I wonder what your game laws say about shooting one. PA has some crazy things like they say there are no cougars in PA..but also because there is no season on them they are a protected species?!?!?.
I would call them...they may just tell you to shoot it if you see it.

Right now the dnr is pretty worked up about this. Disease is a concern. Game farms are suppose to report it immediately if anything escapes. There is one game farm about 15 miles north that has a lot of elk, there is another one a little further away to the east that I think has some. It sounds as if they are going to be searching for this big guy and sharpshooters will get him if they find him. The guy that owns the land where it was filmed asked if it were ok if he shot it but they said no.

I don't know if the game farms are supposed to put tags on their animals or not, but I didn't see any marks on that elk that would ID it as a game farm animal.

I have heard the ones at game farm do not all have tags.
A little update. This elk was seen 15 miles away two days before this picture was taken. An elk was spotted yesterday in a little town about 35 or 40 miles away and this morning an elk was hit and killed on the road about 50 miles away. I am assuming they are all the same elk but I don't know that for sure yet.
