Does anybody know of a place

I got a crazy idea that I would like to get a fast twist conical shooting barrel for my Lyman GPR. I would like to get a .45 with a 1 in 20 twist. Anybody know of a place that could make a drop in barrel like that for a GPR and not bust the bank too bad?

I'm pretty sure you can use the drop in GM barrel for the TC. They make a fast twist barrel. It's shorter than your barrel though. Only the RB barrel is the same length.

Give GM a call.

If not what muley says you can always buy another barrel, even if the bore is shot out or rusted and have it bored out sleeved and re-rifled to anything you want.

GMB don't fit the Great Plains only the Trade Rifle and Deerstalker I believe. Your best bet would be purchase a blank barrel and have someone drill it out for you. That would make a nice rifle.

Yes, in thinking about it. The GPR has two wedges. TC has one.

I found this, and one guy said he made a barrel for his GPR in fast twist.

I have 2 fast twist sidelocks,1:20 and 1:18
Mine won't shoot good unless I use over a 500 gr conical . That's something to consider . My best shooter is 90 gr and a 538 gr conical .
I personally don't like the recoil but if something is in front of it when it goes off you can count on it going down. Hope you find one.

Wow! Twice the weight of my bullet.

That would hurt.

Reminds me of the .458 mag I owned when I was in my 30's. The 500gr bullet woke me up.

What size conical are you shooting out of your Great Plains Hunter with the 1 in 32 twist? Do you think just getting that barrel is a better option?

I really like the GPH barrel. I shoot both a 425 Hornady and a 535gr No excuse. Most of the time I stick with the 425 gr because of the recoil and it's hunting accurate. It shoots good out to about 140 yards .about a foot of drop at that distance . My furthest deer was 119 yards and it didnt run but 40 yards .I shoot anywhere from 90 to 110 gr , mostly 110 for hunting. I think I would go with the GPH barrel and for the price you cant beat it.
