Let's see what you can do.

Last Tuesday I went to the range with my CVA Wolf to be sure it was ready for deer season. I didn't shoot anything spectacular but adequate for harvesting a deer out to 100 yards.

While I was sighting it in I took a few shots OFFHAND at 100 yards just to see what I could do. It would be interesting to see what you guys can do offhand at 100 yards. My first 2 shots were with 110 grains Pyrodex Select and the second 2 were with 85 grains of the same powder. I was shooting a 240 grain, .45 caliber XTP in a .50 caliber Thompson Center sabot. The primer was a regular CCI 209.

nchawkeye 08-31-2012 02:29 PM

Here is my flinter....

Here is an Omega I sighted in for a buddy...

nchawkeye 08-31-2012 02:32 PM

And another more average group with my flintlock after I had had cateract surgery...This is at 50 yards with a center of target hold...

Muley Hunter 08-31-2012 02:33 PM

I don't have 100yds. This is 75 yds. Some say the target is 86yds. I don't know for sure. The first three shots were sighting in the iron sights. The 4 shots in the circle were standing offhand no sling, but i'm half blind.

80gr Bh 209 250gr Aerolite CVA Wolf

MountainDevil54 08-31-2012 03:32 PM

good shootin wolfs but im afraid mine has the upper hand in accuracy..... I am behind the trigger :D

Muley Hunter 08-31-2012 03:34 PM

Dream on sonny.

You're lost without your lead sled. :p

MountainDevil54 08-31-2012 04:02 PM

shoot ol man i was using my sling stix last year and was shooting 4" groups at 200 yards with the scoped optima.

Muley Hunter 08-31-2012 04:08 PM

Offhand is not sticks. :hit:

flounder33 08-31-2012 04:30 PM

Dang! Nice shooting there nchawkeye

cayugad 08-31-2012 04:36 PM

Me shooting off hand is a good way not to mess up a paper target. All seriousness.. I am one of the worst off hand shooters these days. And the further I get away from the target, the worst I get. That is one reason I have been shooting A LOT with my .22 caliber Sig Sauer, trying to learn hold, breathing, etc.. and it is helping. That is some good off hand shooting people.

bronko22000 08-31-2012 04:54 PM

Darn it those CVAs shoot terribly! I hope mine does much better...
Must be all the junk parts and poor quality!

Muley Hunter 08-31-2012 05:07 PM

It's all that creep in the trigger.

ronlaughlin 08-31-2012 06:09 PM

What's that old saw? The first liar doesn't stand a chance!?! Another......................That's nothing!!.........................

Dave - the .22 is good practice. The more you shoot the more muscle memory you will attain and the better you will get.

In defense of Pluckit. The Wolf is not an easy gun to shoot offhand. Light gun with a short barrel

A gun with a long heavy barrel like th GPR is better suited for offhand shooting.

Gm54-120 09-01-2012 06:08 AM

Knight Elite 45 no rests

Same load on the sled.

Muley Hunter 09-01-2012 06:42 AM

Just offhand was asked for.

Well too bad. The OP posted one that wasn't off hand also. I was simply comparing mine as well .

Get over it.

Muley Hunter 09-01-2012 07:13 AM

He asked for offhand. Not a scoped lead sled.

Gm54-120 09-01-2012 07:26 AM

I didnt see anything about NO SCOPES.

Get over it, you are not a mod here.

MountainDevil54 09-01-2012 07:33 AM

looks like the knight advertisement has woke up :D

Where did the original poster say anything about only posting offhand shooting targets? Some of you guys need to get out in the woods and chill out a bit. :confused2:

I didn't realize posting what gun shot the group was an advertisement. I guess the OP was advertising too according to your post or maybe you are just trying to start an argument again.

BTW i missed your off hand group pic.

hey thats a good post because thats all i ever did on MM and they banned me for doing that, but i guess it finally caught up with them, along with abusing their members and running them off.

Gm54-120 09-01-2012 08:35 AM

Seems to me you were banned here before too but i dont see what that has to do with the topic.

MountainDevil54 09-01-2012 08:38 AM

yeah a jealous mod got me over a chick on here :D seems he had a thing for her

Lucky for you.

Gm54-120 09-01-2012 08:45 AM

The only off hand shots that really matter. Both shots taken within a few minutes of each other with two different bullets.

MountainDevil54 09-01-2012 08:48 AM

alright lets not screw up plunkits post, we will continue over in the American made thread.

Breechplug 09-01-2012 05:42 PM

Since I can use a scope and sabots for hunting I dont shoot off hand. I only take a solid rest when shooting or I'll pass on the shot. I want the best shot with no if's about it, as far back as I can remember all my harvested deer have been lung or heart shot.
Now I will take a off hand shot if it's less than 50 yds and I am sighted in for it with my open sights, but that's usually only if my scope is fogged or full of snow. I had some targets but I cleaned up a bunch of stuff on my computer recently and deleted a-lot and they went with them. I'll ge out in the next few weeks after harvest season (what little there'll be of it) and post some targets.

I have never seen anybody that can stretch and spin things the way you do...

I personally know you were not banned from MM for advertising or posting targets. Your ban resulted from you mouth and the things you said to other people on the board and your constant need to create agitation on the board.

I can also honestly tell you the only person that was banned or ran off in the last several years were you and one other instigator, and to be honest there has been a far less turmoil and arguments since you were invited to leave.

Your recent attack on 'jaybez101099' or any other hard working American, if he might be a union member is a prime example. then to make jest of it with this statement "oh brother, i swear some like to give some smack talk but cant handle it when someone twists their finger into their rib with some smack talk of their own." Then to come back in the same post with this statement "As i tell the wimmins, use me for my body, not for what i have to offer." That is just plane disrepectful to post on a public forum and it does not bother you a bit.

And none of this has anything to do with the closing of the board by Chuck. It is his board and he no longer participates in the daily activities yet he continued to pay all the fees out of his own pockets. I guess he can choose to close it if he so chooses.

But, your claim is so false it is almost funny. but then again it really fits you...

I see you have been de-activated/banned at Doug's also and it looks like that board is going along just fine also without your input...

I have just been reminded that you are no longer a member on DWB either...

The list continues to grow...

I find a low power scope great for offhand shots. I use a 1.5x5 and just leave it on 1.5x. I find it easy to acquire the target and hold steady. More magnification messes me up.

It must have been bad then. I saw a lot after he left.

Yea my scope has got me a time or two, one time I can recall really good is when I had my 3X9 on 9 power. I was looking at some deer accross the corn field when I caught some movement out of the corner of my eye. It was a buck, I quickly scoped him. Having the scope still on 9 power the young 2 1/2 year old 8 pointer looked like a 4 1/2 year old 150 class buck at 30 yds, I took him.
Boy was I surprised when I got closer to him! Needless to say snce then I have let by bucks that were shoters because I now have small buck panic, and also small doe panic.
Im a good shot with open sights out to say 75yds+-, but like I said above I always take a solid rest to make 100% sure I have a good hold on my target, if I cant manage it I pass.
Now that Im older it does'nt matter to me if I miss a shot, I'll eventually get one, if I dont I still sleep good at night knowing he's still out there unharmed and running on all fours.
As I get older the hunting has turned more into hunting than shooting, and when I do shoot it's because I know it's going to be a good shot and I feel good about it.

Good on you. My dad drove that into me when I was kid just learning to hunt, and it always stuck. I have no problem passing up shots until I get what I want. If I don't get it. I enjoy the hunt anyway.
