What items do I need to use loose powder?
 

So far, I have only used 777 Pellets. I want to try Blackhorn209 in my CVA Accura. I'm looking for specific "make and model" recommendations for the items I'll need. I think it may be as simple as a Powder Flask and a smaller Adjustable powder measurer?

You need a spout or funnel cap for your powder canister. Hodgdon and TC sell them. You will also need an adjustable powder measure that goes from 80 to 120 volumetric grains of powder. Do not forget that 100 grains by volume of BH 209 does not equate to 100 grains by weight. The latter is about 150 grains by volume and is above the recommended maximum charge of BH 209.

You will also need something to clean the carbon fouling out of the breech plug's flash channel. On my TC Encore, I use a 1/8 inch drill bit that I turn by hand. Not sure what the diameter of the flash channel is on the Accura. Finally, you will need a tight fitting bullet-sabot combo. Loading pressure should be about 30-40 pounds.

Powder flask and measure should be fine. Just be careful and if you want to use the jug, they make spouts for them so you can pour INTO YOUR MEASURE.

Cayugad is making a very important safety point here. NEVER pour from the canister into the barrel - this can lead to a really bad day! Always pour into a measure first and from the measure to the muzzle.

i made the move from pellets to powder last year, its super easy. I bought one of the small flasks that have a spring loaded top. It will hold probably 2 cups of loose powder. Then buy the small measuring flask (cant remember the proper name), its the small see thru cylinder with the measuring marks on the side and youre basically good to go. Once you find the load your gun likes best, buy a few of those small self contained powder holders (holds the powder for one shot, your nipple and your bullet) and youre ready to do some hunting.

I bought the T/C powder measure and flask. I like both of them very well. Wal-Marx had the measure for 13.97. I paid 25.00 for the flask locally.

The Accura will probably need a modified breech plug to reliably ignite BH209 loose powder.
