Default Range report on the Renegade.

I figured it was time to see what shelikes to eat, and boy was surprised. I was shooting FF 777 and cleaned after every shot. 3 shot groups and I let the barrel cool between shots. Target at 50 yards.

1st. Load- Hornady Great Plains Conical 385gr. Started with 70gr of powder and worked up to 85gr. It shot all over the target, and I noticed a lot of lead on my cleaning patches.

2nd load- Thompson/Center Maxi-Hunter 275gr. Started at 70gr of powder and worked up to 85gr. No lead on patches and 4" group at 85gr was the best it did.

Last load- PRB Hornady .490 with pillow ticking patch cut from strips flush with muzzle. Kinda pressed for time so I loaded with 85gr and shot a 4" group, I bet I can do better than 4"

The PRB should be in the same hole at 50 yds.

I never used T7 though. How did the patches look?

Patches looked great just a little brown, I got some pyrodex RS to see if that helps tighten the groups.

I have never been able to get my Hawken to hit the broad side of the barn using T7. I never have tried Pryodex though...just kinda gave up on it

t7 USUALLY BLOWS TJHE PATCHES . Most have to use a wad under the ball. Pyrodex is a better choice for PRB. If that is a 50 caliber you might try 100 grains with an olive oil patch lube.

I shoot 85 grains of 2f black powder and a patched ball out of my Renegade with very good results.

Pyrodex is a better choice for PRB.
I've found it to be a better choice for Great Plains bullets also. For me, T7 is a powder for sabots and nothing else.

777 works very good when loaded in small caliber rifle bores with round balls and in single shot pistols and revolvers with round balls.

Update: I got a box of 275gr maxi-hunters. At 25 yards with 90gr of pyrodex rs all 3 shots were in the same hole 6" high and right. Took me 3 shots to bullseye. Backed up to 50yrds and next 3 were about 3" high, but my group had opened to 3" I figured it's human error because my front site covers the entire target. Oh I cleared with hot soapy water between shots.

If you want a real shooter switch to Pyrodex RS and try the XTP or if you got to shoot a conical shoot the 385 gr Great plains and start at 70 gr of Prodex RS. My renegade tends to be a powder hawg. with the XTP's mine shoots real well with 70 gr of pyrodex RS. You should easily get better groups.
