New Omega: Scope question???

Hi...I just got a couple brand new guns including a T/C Omega in camo/stainless.

Here is my question...the dealer said that a Bushnell Trophy in 1.75-4 x 32 would be a great scope for this gun....is it? I wonder now because he also said it' s a 100 yard gun. Am I under-powered in the optics or just right?

I would return that scope and get the Leupold VXII 2x7,have one on my Omega with stainless barrel, you can definetly use the extra magnification and Bushnell scopes are a problem waiting to happen. You can pay now or you can pay later!I' m speaking from experience had Bushnells leak nitrogen and have had the internals fail to hold zero.Good Luck your going to love your Omega;)

The Max. on medium or large game with 150 gr. charge would be 200 yds. I am saving up for a 3-9X40 Conquest for my .50 cal./.54 cal. T/C System 1. Good luck.

I have a T/C hawken hunter 3-9x44 on my .50 cal Omega, its a great scope suppose to be recoil proof for magnum loads.

Kubota why get one thats " just enough" ? I would' nt put a 1xWhatever on anything but a turkey gun. The Omega is a 250yd gun and dont let anyone tell you its not. Loaded with 180 or 200grn RedHots (Barnes) and ahead of 150grains of pellets, that 28" barrel will " reach out and touch em" its up to you.

My personal minimum for the Omega would be 3x9. Personally, my next smokepole will be a 45cal Omega and it will wear a 3 or 4x12 of some variant. You got the gun for " out there" why not put a scope on it for same?

Whack em where they stand!

KUBOTA3130

Don' t be startled by that 250 number.... it' s just a number. It takes perfect terrain -- perfect rifle -- perfect shooter -- perfect weather to one-shot kill a deer at 250 yards with one of these new high-tech LR/XR rifles.

An average modern muzzleloading projectile will fly 500 yards... it' s just a number.

If I bring poster RedAllison to where I hunt & he sees a deer 250 yards away every day in the same exact spot, he will need a week to practice to shoot it dead because of varying weather/wind/terrain slope.

If you hunt in the exact same spot all the time & shoot at the same bean field all the time, you will eventually get good at it.

I hunt a different spot every day or two.... Red Allison couldn' t do 250 yard shots hunting with me in Michigan.

Triple I learned along time ago to never criticize another mans shooting unless you have seen him do it. Perhaps because you cant or dont choose to do it, doesnt mean others dont or cant. 250yds is 250yds. The only variables are a stiff crosswind (over 15mph) and/or an extreme angle up or down (over 45 degs). Other than that, its a babypiss shot with the Omega. I was being conservative with Kubota because he sounded new with the gun. In reality the 45 Omega with 150boattail bullets and 150grains of pellets is a 300yd deer rifle. With a lil practice an assuming ones particular Omega will group with them, the 50s with lightweight and fast bullets are 250-300yd rigs as well. ANY long range shooting takes a lil practice sure, but I have never recommended going out blind anyway, regardless of arm.

Maximizing ones opportunity with the right equipment only increases your odds and THAT is what chasing big bucks is all about.

Craps anyone?

You bought the scope already?? Too late to be asking advice! I' m sure you' ll find that Bushnell to be O.K. I find a plain, Non-variable 4X is all I need for most deer and larger game shooting out to 300 yards or so, on a regular HP rifle! I think it' s plenty for a front-stuffer! I agree that the 2X-7X might have been a little better, but what you bought will do O.K. I have 2.5X and 4X scopes on all my muzzleloaders, and have never had to pass up shot due to too-little magnification.

Bushnell scopes are a problem waiting to happen.
I will confess I have absolutely NO KNOWLEDGE of present-day Bushnell scopes, but I have two old Scopechiefs, a 1X-4.5X and a 3X-9X with Command Post switchable reticles I bought these two in the late 1960' s. One is on a Heym combination gun, 20 GA./.30/06, in claw mounts. The other is on my " sniper rifle" , an Argentine M1909 Mauser that shoots 200-grain .308" diameter Sierras into 0.5" @ 100 yards, at a muzzle velocity of 2680 FPS from its 29" barrel. Both of these scopes have worked very well for me for over three decades. Maybe Bushnell is not that good any more, but these two scopes are as good as any brand I' ve ever owned, both as to adjustment accuracy, optics and reliability. I haven' t had to change the zero on either of these guns in over ten years, using the same ammo every season.
