Predator hunting this winter may not be great.

Default Predator hunting this winter may not be great.

I found this little guy skulking around my pasture yesterday. Hopefully there aren't to many with mange this bad. If so, I guess there won't be a need to skin them out this winter.

As much as I might dislike a coyote or any vermin for that matter, I hate to see them get sick like that. Sick or crippled animals just bother me for some reason. What other animals can catch that disease?

One bow season I was in my tree and in walked a nice fat doe. My freezer was empty. And I was about to harvest her (for animal lovers that means kill her). And then in walked a much smaller doe with a bad back leg. I suspect she'd been car hit. And the way she was limping, I knew she'd by coyote or wolf dinner. But instead of shooting the large doe, I shot the smaller injured one. It was one of the few times I actually felt good, about killing a deer. I got less meat and had to throw a hind quarter away basically.. but I enjoyed that bow deer a lot.

The mange is a tough sentence.

I saw a coyote in KS a couple of years ago which was completely hairless. That was a wield looking critter.

Its not uncommon to see them with the mange during the summer around here. I cant ever remember seeing one with mange during the winter. They are an ugly site for sure.

Is there a market for coyote skins? I've been throwing mine away.

Coyote pelts will range from 20 to 50 dollars depending on the condition and where you are.

Coyotes here in SW OK are usually scraggly critters.
