Thinking of a new Rifle???
Ok, been thinking of working up a new rig and noticed the CVA Accura Mountain Rifle. Can't find any reference material on this gun. It looks good, but is it a good gun? Don't know so I thought I would ask the CVA experts out there.
Is it worth getting serious about and will it work for me? Help. |
mine is supposed to ship out friday. Everything ive heard from people that own it, love it. I had to wait 3 months because they kept selling out of them and i was just one on the waiting list.
|
What did you end up paying for it? I see everything from $450. to $550.
|
$449 from Carlos, hes the best IMO for the prices.

No, he did not buy it from me. If he had, he would have had it 2 month ago. I have 7 in stock now.
Carlos |
I'm sure Jon meant to say Carlos has the best prices.
|
Can you put iron sites on a Mountain Rifle or is it scope only?
|
You'd have to shim the iron sights up a bit. It's really a scope stock.
|
So I guess this is a fairly new gun with little reviews yet? Is a totally new design or and old model with a new look?
I mean right now I am still relying on an old NEF Sidekick that has been upgraded with an improved bp Been shooting 95 grs of BH209 and a 300 gr. saboted XTP. Been taking deer with it for the last 10 years and it is very reliable. |
This will give you it's features. It's sort of a combo Apex-Accura V2 made into a mountain rifle.

Muley, why you would make anyone endure that kind of torture of watching that guy is beyond me.

"The M..R stands for...Mountain Rifle" I guess the guy is just annoying to me. I understand he works for CVA but he is a walking talking CVA infomercial.
|
He's just doing his job. You can't blame him for that.
|
Nope I don't blame him for doing his job. Hes just one of those guys I can't handle watching. Kinda like some people have those shows or people on television that they don't like. I don't watch television so its when I see him on a youtube video mostly I have to click out of it.
|
You mean like Waddell? I find him annoying.
Hey! I don't like a TC guy, and you don't like a CVA guy. Nothing ever changes. :D |
Any reason why the MR doesn't come with open sights, or atleast I have not seen it with open sights.
Steve |
The stock is made for a scope.

Steve 1. The scope can be mounted lower and closer to the bore line if there aren't any sights or rear sight ramp in the way. 2. Since it's primarily designed for the mountains, the designers must figure that it will be used for shooting across passes, canyons or low lying areas in-between steep hillsides that could cover considerable distance, and shooting at more extreme angles that would be best served by mounting a scope. Many bull barrel and varmint rifles don't have sights. They're also intended for accurate shooting at long range and mounting a scope to accomplish that is the norm. |
I don't want to keep showing videos to prove a point, but it seems I have to.
Keep in mind the MR has an Apex stock when you watch this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcUn9...layer_embedded |
I saw O'neil Outdoor televison show this morning featuring hunts with the mountain rifle. They mentioned how light it was was but came with a great recoil pad to offset this. They mentioned it came with a sling and was really great to shoot with a scope. Seemed like a nice gun, they were wearing out some havelinas with it.

If you have others that you don't like. Fine, but I didn't mention it. You don't appear to like anybody who's sponsored. |
wooohooo!!! 5 days later i can finally log in without an error popping up.
To clarify, I did not buy the MR from Carlos, I always get mine through CVA as a writer/reviewer/tinkerer. A couple deals popped up where my gun was ordered and something got screwed up and before it could be caught, they were out of MR's. These things are selling like hot cakes and CVA actually has to have them brought in VIA air shipments. Just was saying that Carlos so far has the best prices on them that I can find. Mine should be here at the end of the week. As for open sights, They show you can order it with scope mount or open sights. On our Apex, its a scope only rifle BUT I was able to shim both the rear and front sights up enough for my dad to use this hunting season. I did find a few days ago that the shim allowed the front sight to have some slight wiggle, So I just used some epoxy and fed it under the sight and made a nice bed for the sight to rest on. Solid as a rock now. Using a TALL front sight and rear sight, the MR would have no issues at all with open sights. |
You need to check again Jon. They list the V2 and MR in the same description, but if you look again you'll see the V2 is the one that has the option of open sights or scope mount. The MR is scope mount only.
