Default 1 in 48" twist

Hey guys,

Just picked up a new muzzy, a CVA frontier sidelock with a 1 in 48" twist. This is my 4th muzzy, but all the others are inlines with 1-28" or 1-30" twists. I was just wondering what type of projectiles and powder charges you all have had success with in the 1-48" twist. Other than roundballs, that is- I know PRB's will shoot good in this twist, but I don't plan on using PRB's for hunting- would prefer a conical or saboted round. Any replies are appreciated.

Oh, by the way, I plan on using T7 3f for powder- any of you have issues with that in a sidelock? I could switch powder, but since I have quite a bit of T7 stocked up, I would prefer to stay with it. I also have a large supply of 240 grain TC cheap shots which I thought might do well with this twist (being shorter), and also 250 grain Deep Curls. I'm open to trying conicals though, as well.

The 3f 777 powder will work fine. Try some 240 grain XTPs in that rifle. They shoot well out of some of mine. 80 grains of powder seems to work good. Sounds like a good find.

REAL bullets, Maxiballs, maxihunters, powerbelts, all great shooters in the 1:48 twist. Even the huge 440 .500 s&w conicals do excellent in that twist.

The two things that shot best in my 1-48 twist guns [I have 6] are sabots with short bullets like the 200grain 45 with 90 grains RS and PRB, the only conicals I have had good accuracy results with consistently is the real bullet, which also shot best with 90 grains.

Thanks for the replies! I think I will start out with the 240 grain all lead Cheap Shots - they are a very short bullet in a sabot, so sounds like they might work. Plus, I have a lot of them...

Sorry, one more question- any particular #11 caps best for igniting T7?

Just make sure you have a magnum cap. CCI magnum, Remington 40% hotter, RWS 1075 are all good caps. Stay away from the standard CCI caps.
