Flintlock Bear

Last fall my tag got used up during the moose season and I never got a chance to use my flinter for them. This year I've booked off the first week of bear season and I hope to have a story for you fella's.

Hopefully it'll go something like this.

I've been baiting since 1 Aug. Molasses and deer chow and some odd table scraps and bacon grease. Opening day I climbed up into my stand before first light. 1/2 an hour before dawn I load and prime my .54 cal Lyman Great Plains Rifle. 100 gr of 2F GOEX, a .535 Hornady Ball and an .018 Pillow Tick Patch.

He was so quiet I never heard him until.........

Thanks for sharing. Damn those moose are tall! They make those bear look so puny. Looks like you should fill your tag. But please hold out for one of those bigger guys. And be very careful of that Sasquatch on pic 18. He scared the heck out of me when I saw him.

I had to look at that one a few times till I figured out what it was. lol

I just laid out the bait yesterday so the big boys have yet to show up.

We also have a cow tag for archery moose. Those are not all that large for moose either but would taste just fine!!!

Very cool. Good luck in your flintlock pursuit of bear. I see no reason that .54 will not get the job done. Its what I hunted bear with. Although mine was a percussion lock. And I never saw a bear that was a shooter. Although I had a sow and two cub come in and they were WAY too close to my blind. I think if I would have had to run, my cheeks were squeezed so tight together at one point, I could have carried the chair cushion with me, and never used my hands to do so.

On the other hand, that might not be so bad if the bear is intent on chasing you and taking a bite out of your butt.

I think if that sow saw a runnin pillow she might just up and die from laughter.:p
