A little boost for the summer blues.

This hot dry weather gets depressing after a while. Having to work outside ,while nice, gets to be a drag when its a 100 degrees.
I often dream of the coming hunting season , wishing it would hurry up and get here.
well i got a little boost for my spirit today. I received archery Antelope, archery buck and archery doe tags.
33 days and counting til antelope..
deer , well thats not til sept 22.
But since this is a blackpowder forum I will say I am looking forward to muzzleloader season even more.:s2::s2:

Good luck in bow season. And muzzleloader season of course.

8 days til bow antelope and when I went out again to try extending my shooting distance . I noticed the fiber optics on the first 2 pins were broke. It seeems like things always happen as it gets close to the season. Of course I live where you can't buy anything , so I have to order it in. That means I will get it fixed probably 2 days before season opener and then get it sighted in again. Oh well .:D:D
At least I can still practice longer shots, since it is the 20 and 30 yard pins that are broke,
I guess I see the advantage of a 7 pin sight now.:D
I prefer a 3 or 5 pin sight so it's not so crowded. This bow has a 3 pin sight, so that eliminates taking these 2 off and re-arranging the others.:D
The one good thing about this is while I wait I can go shoot the Disc Extreme and make sure it is ready for October.

Anyone else ever notice that stuff seems to happen at the wrong time. Not that there is a right time of course. But You know what I mean.

It hasn't been bad here. Low 80's, and rain every afternoon. It's keeping the high mountains perfect where we'll be hunting.

29 days until ML season.

I have been told that antelope meat isn't the best. Friend got one a few years ago and the guide told him he would be better off if he had it made into sausage. :confused0024:

And for a long time I thought antelopes were in the deer family. Now I find out they are goats! Being from the east coast I guess you can understand my misinformation on the goats. ;)

Antelope meat is tasty and tender. Antelope hunters that are 'cool' say, ' i killed a goat', or 'put in for a goat tag', or................some such.

Meat from a big old muley buck is stinky and tough. Meat from a big old 6 point bull is tough. Meat from a big old stinky 'goat', is sweet smelling, tasty and tender. It has always amazed me how bad a big horned stinky 'goat' stinks. The smell seems to stick to my hands for days and days. Yet, when cooking the meat, this awful smell isn't there. Antelope meat is tasty and tender.

Ever try a calf elk? I'm seriously thinking of trying for one this year.

I'm just past the age on getting the meat of of even a cow.

I know a guy here where I live that has been shooting calves for 20 years. He says once to taste the meat there's no turning back. I could never do it up until now. I'm not sure if I could pull the trigger, but i'll never know until my sights are on one.

Calf elk is tasty and tender. Spike elk is tasty and tender. Doe deer are tasty and tender. Usually cow elk is tasty and tender. Big 6 point bull are tasty and chew like a boot. Rag horn bull is worthless except as hamburger. Steaks are tough; antlers are puny. Oops, wait, the ivories may be pretty. Calf ivories are hollow and colorless.

Hope you have a wonderful hunt this year!

Thanks, I hope so too. I cracked a rib last week, and it's slowing me down.

I'm praying it will heal somewhat by Sept 8th.

great, going to have to drag elk and deer out of the forest with Pete strapped to my back.
