second try at making a wood stock for my win apex
last year, I failed badly at my attempt at making a wood stock for my win apex. I am going to try again. using different methods this time. 2 to 4 templates for each part of the project, i picked up a key hole saw to do the action inlet, small hand planer for tight spaces. still have not figured out how i am going to carve out the barrel channel.
all I got to say is wish me luck. |
well a short quick update. found the center of the stock. marked the templates on the stock.

Corey, before you do any cutting you need to get those areas flat. Either with a table saw, plane, rasp, sandpaper backed with a sanding block, etc. Then you can mark your lines more precisely.
For my build I'm using templates cut from a gallon orange juice jug. It works very well and is better than paper or cardboard for transferring the lines. I also recommend you view the various videos Midway USA has on YouTube on stock making and inletting. http://www.youtube.com/user/MidwayUS...making+a+stock ![]() |
thanks for the idea semi, I was planning on multiple templates. first one to cut the second. mainly to get placement.
I have a bunch of videos booked marked on one of two computers. can't remember which one. thanks for the tip on the sanding. I have a small hand planer. planning for stock detail work. |
