Finally Found the Combo
I've been messing around with a 45 Disc Elite for the past 2-3 years. While it would shoot OK, I knew it do better.
![]() I've glass bedded the stock and tried countless combinations of powder, primers and bullets. I also changed the scope and rings since this picture was taken. It looks like I finally found the combo. I hope to repeat this in the months ahead. First try was 200 grain XTP's with 110 grains of BH 209. ![]() After a scope adjustment, I tried the 200 grain SST's over 110 which tightened up even more. ![]() I then went to 120 with SST and things opened up some. ![]() I don't know if it's repeatable but I was think the extra fire power made the difference as I've been using 90-100 grains all along. I did switch out the vent screw on the Lehigh which could have helped as well. |
I need to do a bedding job on the .50 Elite myself, but I have never done one so I;ll have to go at it a little at a time.

Josmund
Even though i am not a fan of the SST- that sure looks good - actually better than good. In my Knights I have always shot 110 to 120 grains and had excellent results with just about any bullet. Only difference is that I use the HPH-24 sabot. |
That's a WOWZER Josmund.

That will definately do. Nice shooting there. Especially on that second group!

My .45 GMB shoots those 200 grain SSTs with 110 grains of Schuetzen 3f really good also. And from what the forum members that used them told me.. they are a heck of a deer bullet.
Very nice shooting. |
Wow! That's some incredible shooting. 110 grains seems to be the ticket. The 200 SST/Shockwave has always shot the best for me out of my .45, but not quite as good as you are shooting. Results on game have been very good for me, I think it is a great bullet for deer-sized game.

When I can buy 100, 200 grain XTP's for about $20, I'll probably shoot those mostly.
It's satisfying to see it come together after working at it so long. Honestly, I should have listen to the high charge crowd long ago but I'm a slow learner. |
Try 115 gr of powder to see what happens. You really need to try some 200 gr Lehigh DOAs in that gun. There are some for sale over on ModernMuzzleloader. They shoot the best out of my DISC Elite.

A quick way to see if bedding your rifle will help is to take an old credit card and use it as a spacer. Just cut the piece of card big enough to lay in your stock and put a hole in each piece for the screw to go down. Then put it back together and give it a try!
Works for me! daddus |
Is your barrel truly free floating? Mine can take at least 2 business cards all the way back to the recoil lug with 3 going most of the way.
