Decided on my hunting bullet
I'd be foolish not to use the darn thing on my bull hunt this year. After shooting today and getting great groups at 100 yards with both the 250 REAL and the 250gr Thor, Im going with the Thor. Its just a better bullet if I have to take shots out to 150 yards.
So that's it, 90gr pyrodex RS " I can easily reload without swabbing" and the 250 Thor in either .500 or .501" "haven't decided on this issue YET". The .501" loads just a bit tighter at the muzzle, but the .500" shoots an inch tighter @ 100 yards. Soooooo Thats my only issue and what a good "issue" to have! All 4 of us this year should be using the 250 Thor's so its going to be busy should all of us get shots. |
All I can say is good luck. Don't let that little rifle down!

did you try the 300gr thors? if so how did they do? |
I haven't tried them in my sidelock but my inlines love the heck out of them, especially our v2 with 100gr bh209.

The 300gr shoot good. Maybe a hair better than the 250gr, but in my case. I don't like the extra recoil, and the 250gr is fine for elk.

I hear ya on the recoil, i guess i went with the ballistics and decided that in case of a wounded animal and having to take a second shot the 300gr. had a little more stuff at extended range. just found out we drew our tags so its time to get down to business.

Here is my opinion and it is worth what you paid for it. I think a 250 bullet is a little on the light side for a 150 yard shot. Bulls can be big and tough. I have a hard time thinking a 250 bullet will do the trick at 150 yards, closer maybe with good placement. I have used 300 gr bullets on a big cow once and it handled her well. That was the smallest bullet I have ever used on game. Ron

killed my elk with a 223gr round ball at 140 yards with 80gr pyrodex rs.
SHOT PLACEMENT. |
Even with the best of us, shot placement is not always ideal.
