Pyrodex RS vs Goex
Just sitting here thinking about the last time out with the renegade and Pyrodex. The last time i shot the renegade i used 2f goex and had to grunt that next ball down the bore, but with RS, I could shoot as many as 8 times before the fouling started to become an issue with loading. My Accuracy as well with RS was a lot more consistent.
I guess i am just happier with good ol pyrodex than i am with goex. |
Good for you, if you ever graduate to a flinter, you'll prefer Goex... :)
Try moving to Goex FFF, it might help with fouling... Pyrodex ain't that old, I remember when it came out in the 70s...It was developed to get around the shipping and storage limitations...It's ignition temp is also lower than black powder, which presents problems with some... |
I have a flinter, just doesn't get shot much.

Pyrodex P works pretty darn good as well as american pioneer 2f. APP 2f however would be the better one to use, it sets off faster.

Just shows how far removed Pyro is from real powder.
I don't understand the accuracy thing though. Target shooters use real black for a reason. |
I've always seem to get better accuracy with RS than goex for some odd reason. The tn mtn rifle though did love 90gr 2f goex with the 250 REAL. That load did out shoot the 80gr RS load at 100 yards. Just not worth going through the hassle it is for me to stock BP.

I recall reading that the ingition temp of Pyrodex is higher than traditional black. Also, testing (by Hodgdon I think) showed more consistent pressure from shot to shot, which would help with accuracy.

MD, if you want a good comparison of black to Pyrodex use Swiss.
