Short starter.
I made a short starter from a left over piece of the hard wood ram rod I made for my .32 caliber rifle. I used a ball from a broken .50 caliber short starter I had and put a piece of 1/4 inch aluminum rod on it for the stubby part of the starter. And then did the same thing to the loading end of the short rod as I did with the hardwood ram rod I made for it. I put a .22 caliber shell casing over the rod, cut off the rim of the shell casing, and hollowed out the wood a little to accept a round ball.

Nice job fellas. Both look like they do the trick.

A friend of mine makes them out of metal. They look nice and are strong as the devil. I made mine about thirty years ago, and finally it cracked and split just last week. Thank goodness I had about five others.

On mine the small circle to the left of the shaft is drilled out to match the nose of my 460 gr moose maulers. The end of the shaft was covered in accura glass gel to keep it from splitting. I added the mole skin to keep it quiet. I also added a retractable lanyard for it inside my pack so I can't drop it. The whole thing is very small and works great. Ron
