Turkey season opened here March 24th. But Spring arrived so early it seems breeding started earlier than usual and most of the hens are already on nests. We're having a devil of a time getting the gobblers to sing.

Looks like you got your eyes on the neighbors backyard. Good luck with that. :D

Well I was gonna buy me a new scope for my Truimph, but had to put that off a few weeks because I bought a new boat. The wife and me has been planting the garden and playing with the new boat. Were taking a trip to the lower Arkansas river for catfish in a couple of weeks. Catfishing down there is out of this world, the worst day there is like the best day here. Plus you catch those fine tasting blues. One good thing about buying a muzzleloader early it gives plenty of time to get it ready for the next season.

I've been patterning a new shotgun for Turkeys. The season starts April 11.

I still check in most days but my focus is on Mr Tom. I have some project in mind and have been thinking about trying my hand at BP Cartridge guns. However, I know nothing about them and have none of the loading equipment.

Anyone want to sell their loading set?

Just got back from hunt camp. Spent last week working on my property I oversee (550 acres). Needed to build four bridges over steams in my swamp area. They are very wide and I ended up laying a log bridge across them and it is cheaper. If they float away, I can always down another tree and do it again.

Work camp went well, but I am getting really pi$$ed off at the loggers. They are at it again. Every time they come in they really make a hell of a mess. They tear up the roads and our trails. They just don'w care. And if we talk to the land owner, it falls on deaf ears!!! Just something we have to put up with. We have just about 4000 acres and they seem to be always cutting down trees somewhere on the property. At least they are not clear cutting, ugh!

I am now getting ready for turkey season. I still have to work up a good load for my TC New Englander 12 ga. This will be a labor of love though.

Loggers are working over our 900 acre lease also rafsob. But we're mighty glad to see them even though they're screwing up our turkey season a bit.

The Pines were getting too thick and shading out most of the understory. Quantity and quality of the browse was declining, as was the number of deer. Their contract with the landowner is to cut 30-40% of the trees over the entire lease. That will let sunlight get to the ground and do us a lot of good. The briars and forbs will return and should be thick by the end of summer if the rains are good.

Yeah, they're tearing up the roads a bit. But they swear they're going to grade them again before they pull out. But you know how that goes, and how logging companies are. So it remains to be seen. Even if they don't do as promised we'll be better off. We can fix the roads ourselves, but can't thin the trees ourselves.

My current gun project is a bedding job on the Omega X7. I'm going slow and careful and taking lots of pictures. When I'm done it will be a l-o-n-g post.

Mine lives right behind me - but he hit the water valve with my machine at the end of last year and bent the shaft. Now I have to buy a new one.
I got home last night at 11:30 after a nice 18 hour drive. Thank goodness because as much as I enjoyed playing with the grandsons, I don't think I could take much more of those awesome buffets down there. Heck I almost didn't make it thru my front door.
Anyway, I plan on doing some range work on Saturday with the newly obtained .54 Rene flinter. If she don't shoot the PRBs too well, I may send the barrel out to have the twist rate changed to 1:70.
