What globe sight to use with Peep Sight
What globe sight is good to use with the 57SML? I thought the 17AML would work but now I am hearing the 17ATC would do best or does it matter?

Sight
I think you want to use the AML which is .494 high. The ATC is .854 high intended more for vernier tang target sights. The .494 is the recomended sight w/your Lyman 57. Go to Track of The Wolf and gun parts then sights then globe front sights. They're all there w/intended use.

Here are the descriptions...
The ideal companion for the 57SML receiver sight, the 17 comes complete with a set of 8 interchangeable inserts. The 17AML fits low to the barrel with a height of .494". The 17ATC fits rifles that use a tall vernier type rear sight. The 17ATC has a height of .852". All 17's are machined from steel and have a standard 3/8 dovetail. (Except 17AEU which has European Dovetail for Lyman Muzzleloaders).
I thought I sent a pm your direction about this - maybe it got lost in cyberspace...

If you going to put on a Lyman 17 sight you should check out the Lee Shavers inserts. They are WAY better than the Lyman. Ron

These Vernier's might be more appropriate for the tall globe sight...
But remember I am only guessing!!!!

Sabotloader,
That is somewhat of a concern of mine. I just won the bid on Ebay for these sights a few days ago for $99.00. I have been watching for an older T/C vernier style tang sight for some time and I was seeing them go for $110.00-$140.00 (tang sight alone). I had set my limit at $100.00 and I figured because I got the set together, I'm not to concerned if it's too high, I'll replace it and sell or trade the higher one. The seller claimed that he took the sights off an earlier T/C .45 and that the man he bought the gun from bought them directly from T/C back when he originally purchased the gun. Who knows? I don't figure I stand to lose either way as I was only looking to get the tang sight to begin with. I was thinking of contacting Lyman before I mount the sights to find out if they are the right set up or if I should purchase the shorter one.
